Iron Maiden (because I prefer Killing Machine over British Steel)
    Ace of Spades
Back in Black (I like On through.... but putting it against BiB is lamb to the slaughter)
    Shock Tactics (Bruuuuuuuuuuce!)

I dunno, they were both in that non-metal rock n roll realm and at the time it seemed like they had the same fans.

Its true that On Through is 'heavier' than all that arrived afterwards in the Lep's catalogue; and one could argue that change in vocalists aside, BiB is Highway to Hell Pt 2 (though I dont see it that way)

As regards the real dirty slugging street-fight on the bill, it must be said that while Motorhead were delivering fast dirty punk-metal, Saxon were delivering some fantasticlaly crafted melodic NWOBHM tracks. Both big hitters, but very different.

As regards the main event, Priest already had their NWOBHM sound but Maiden with PD singing, like Motorhead were delivering fast & furious punk-metal uppercuts all over the place.

When you have an "epic heavy battle" for 1980 with no Heaven and Hell or Blizzard Of Ozz ...

    Yikes.

I guess you missed the NWOBHM & new band vibe of the bands included...never mind...I'll let you do the next one then...with old washed up band and washed up singers.

I don't think anyone with proper functioning mental faculties would argue that Black Sabbath, Ronnie James Dio or Ozzy Osbournce were "washed up" in 1980/1981. Most argue that they both had a major "resurgence" at that time.

Some might have felt that way years later, but then wouldn't nearly every band you listed be the same?

Anyway ... IMO, Heaven & Hell beats the pants off everything you listed except AC/DC's Back In Black. And Blizzard Of Ozz would also be right in the hunt for best "heavy" album of that time.

You mentioned that your thread died, and I mentioned a couple of huge oversights. I tried to get interested, but right when I noticed those missing I found it hard to be motivated to bother.

It was just a general comment.

    Don't take it personally.

But for the record, I think most rock fans can agree that like them or not, Black Sabbath nor Ozzy Osbourne solo were "washed up" in 1980/1981.
