Dungeon Synth: What is it and recs?

Hey all, and Happy New Year!!

Dungeon Synth, my understanding is it's electronic/synth based music for video games and the style is maximum bombast with a pseudo classical/soundtrack type vibe. Do I have this right? Am I even close?

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I have a few DS releases in my Bandcamp wish list but never pulled the trigger on them. Last night I was pointed to this release by a band/person called Straegor:

    Verdict: LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Questions: The recording seemed somewhat lo-fi, is this indicative to all DS?
Is my general definition above correct?
Is it usually played, composed, created by younger kids?
    How big is "the scene"?
Is the playing/writing somewhat basic/rudimentary but heavy on atmosphere?

Like I said, I really REALLY enjoyed this 27 minute release and REALLY want to hear more of this kind of music, so...hopefully someone here can lay some knowledge on me.

    TIA
    Michael

Take a look at this earlier thread I started:

In addition to the more traditionally “synthy” stuff, Dungeon Synth also often intersects with Chip-Tune, music made using tones from 8-bit video games.

Check out the label Heimat Der Katastrophe on Bandcamp for a lot of good examples. There are sub-genres of Dungeon Synth, like Winter Synth and even…gulp…Cozy Synth! Yes, there IS a scene! (Note: I have not bought any on cassette!)

^ Even though I haven’t bought any DS in a long time, I bought enough that Bandcamp still recommends more to me daily!
