They fixed that last time ( a little ) by placing the vip seating to one side of the stage ( at the Standard and Mill & Mine ).
So it's seated, But, in front of a speaker stack. The way in back seats are still available, but not held for VIP.

Or, I could spring for parking downtown and just drive the half mile. Or, my legs are still pretty darn functional so I may just hoof it...that way I can have even MORE falafel + spicy garlic chicken and still burn them calories like a witch in Salem

The total cost for the weekend at Cumberland was only about $100 more than a single night at the Hilton so....yeah, I'm going to give it a try
Word travels fast, all sold out at the Cumberland. A night at the Hilton is 255 so perhaps you didn't get a "room".

Only difference I can see is that by default, checkout was Sunday and I moved the date to Monday so I wouldn't need to miss anything Sunday night.

Either way? I'm happy to give Cumberland a go

Courtyard Marriot Downtown will be my home for the festival.I saw Cumberland was sold out and just did an eeny-meeny on the others.Hilton is a bit too rich for my wallet.

I bought the VIP ticket also, in the hope of getting a seat for those "mostly standing" shows. We'll see how that works out.

The seating will hopefully be improved even more this year from prior years. I know at Mill + Mine, VIP seating was terrific. The Standard was a mixed bag. With the churches and the Bijou, it was a matter of getting in the damned door before the place hit capacity.

    Tennessee was never an issue.

Also...the free shuttle service they have is really nice. It wasn't TERRIFIC in 2019 (I thought it was a bit on the slow side) but again...it's a lovely free service and they may well have improved upon that as well.

I was one of those who hastened the sellout at the Cumberland. Glad I thought to canvas lodging early.

So the Crowne Plaza will have to do, so far. Seemingly lowest cost and best location ( unless I get a room facing the train tracks again ).
So no Crowne now the Residence Inn, seems like a better deal, pretty central.

I have heard very good things about Julian Lage's trio.
Odeon Pope is a Philadelphia jazz legend and very good.
Ken Vandermark is always worth seeing in any configuration.
Mind Maintenance is Chad Taylor (drums) and Joshua Abrams (bass); both excellent figures (although I don't know the MM albums).
Evan Z is a interesting composer and clarinetist and one of the Founders of Bang On A Can, which means that you can draw a line from him to something like Big Ears.

Those are just the ones I know off the top of my head. These are all very solid additions, imo.

I think the shows are usually scattered throughout the days/times of the festival.

Earwig Deluxe - bizarre, unique, and funny. It's a solo performance artist with poetry, operatic singing (occasional yelling), dancing to weird lo-fi backing tracks.

Dead Rider is pretty legendary Chicago rock.

Joseph Allred - spiritual folk acoustic

Dana - psych punk with some theremin

Horcerer - dark goth electronic operatic NIN/Bowie-esque

The Drips - hard to describe art punk rock - sort of Beefheart band + Half Japanese + Sun City Girls or something

    Recovered Media - solo electronic

Those are the ones I'm most familiar with.
