The Pineapple Thief - Nothing But The Truth

I've been following this band for many years now. They have evolved in many different ways over the years. Like many bands of late, TPT recorded and filmed a (covid) live in the studio performance in April of this year, and it will be released on October 22, 2021. Meanwhile Bandcamp is posting the track list and offering one track to listen as a teaser. Frankly IMO it sounds great, better than the original. Tight chops and stunning sound. I'm certain that those who like the band will enjoy this.

I watched it when they did it pay per view style. I thought it was great and watched a couple of times. Is it coming out on dvd?

    I’m likely in for this.

Burning Shed lists a Blu Ray version:

Just received an email that they're doing a North American tour starting in April 2022.

Can't find a good link showing the dates but if I do I will post.

Definitely going to try to make one of those shows. I've been spinning the last three PThief albums a lot lately (and Soord's solo album, too). I quite like the three albums with Gavin Harrison more than anything else the band have done.

Wow, will they fill SONY Hall in NYC? That’s where Wislon and Umphrey’s and such play.

I noticed that they're playing a larger venue in Cleveland as well this time. Hopefully they're basing it off of what they saw on the last tour.

The Detroit venue is also larger this tour. Hopefully that is a good thing for the band.

We played Sony Hall together in 2019 and there were 500+ in attendance. However, you may be confusing that venue with the former Nokia/Playstation Theater, where Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson have played multiple times.

I probably am confusing them. It’s too hard to keep track of the corporate sponsorships!

They are playing in a bar/grill in Dallas with a capacity of 1200.

GMBG holds that much? does that include the inside bar section perhaps? The outdoor 'concert' area seems much smaller. This is where Pain of Salvation, Haken, Leprous, Riverside have played with audiences I'd say were in the 100+ range at most.

And this is where I'll see The Pineapple Thief although admittedly i'm not really up to speed on their catalog. Where should I start?

My personal favorite is probably "What We Have Sown" from 2017.

I have driven by GMBG several times, but have never been inside. Looks pretty small from the outside, but 1200 is the official capacity listed on their Google site. I would guess maybe 200-300 people will show up for this.

I like their middle period the best, starting with Variations On A Dream through What We Have Sown. Alternate, psychedelic and very Prog, with longer songs, a darker tone, psychotic lyrics and more mellotron. Fucking great material IMO. You can't go wrong. I still like them, but I'm worried they will do a full Genesis. Looks like Steven Wilson is going that way, but I give him credit for not going there with Porcupine Tree.
