ZZ Top were in an episode of King Of The Hill, where we find out that Dusty and Hank are cousins. Apparently, at Hank and Peggy's wedding reception, Dusty got up onstage with the band and played an 18 minute version of Radar Love with a bass solo in it.

Oh shit - one of my favorite bands - never forget how Fandango blew me away then Tres Hombres and Rio Grande Mud - just loved the band and his bass playing was always so right. I actually bumped into him in a casino in Atlantic City many years ago, same evening Senator Al Dimato ran up to me and grabbed my (then very red) beard “for good luck”. I guess he didn’t see Dusty was there. RIP Dusty.

It's strange....yesterday I listened to hours of ZZ Top while working...Deguello, Fandango, Tres Hombres, Rio Grande Mud.......after not having spun them for ages. Then, to wake up and see this news this morning.....

Pluto TV in the US is playing a 2013 ZZ Top concert from Montreux right now (0900 EST) - and I think this was already on the schedule.
*they followed up with a Texas concert and will replay the Montreux gig straight after it.

I haven't listened to much of them in ages, but I remember never wanting to switch/turn them off as a child. A very good player and seemingly decent human being is taken from us again!

Loved them in the 70's. Tres Hombres was my favorite. Every song is great! I work for a major car rental company in Burbank California and about 10 years ago the band walked into my rental office. As soon as they appeared I said "Welcome beer drinkers and hell raisers!" They all smiled and said in their Texas drawl a big "Howdy!" I rented them a car and had a nice talk with them. I remembered the inside cover photo of Tres Hombres which showed a huge photo of a mouth watering Tex-Mex meal that made you drool, especially after hitting the bong
I asked about it, and they said the restaurant was in San Antonio. That night I revisited Tres Hombres after not hearing it for many years, and it sounded just as great as in the 70's and IMO is a vital classic rock album. Sad to hear of Dusty's passing. And I hope ZZ Top will find another bass player to fill Dusty's boots. RIP amigo.
Day dawns dark...it now numbers infinity.
