Just picked up a vinyl copy of this (and Looking In) a couple of months ago--I never owned any Savoy Brown on vinyl before. But I remember when Blue Matter was current, seeing it in the store without having a clue who Savoy Brown were or what they sounded like, and wondering what kind of weird, freaky music could lurk behind such a creepy cover. Very unlikely artwork for a blues record!

The early Savoy Brown albums contained a darker approach to Blues. Particularly in the voice of Chris Youlden. Several British Blues Rock bands in the 60s had a slight Psychedelic influence and a heavier sound . Cream, Groundhogs, the first four Fleetwood Mac albums ..there is something dark about them. What do you think that is?
Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and Mr. Wonderful have zero Psychedelic content and are geared towards expressing authentic sounding traditional Blues music. ..yet they come across much darker than recordings of the great American Blues masters themselves. The early Savoy Brown albums had all of those characteristics. England being somewhat like a small island compared to the U.S. and it's different culture naturally influenced Rock Music of those times and particularly American musicians. They are amazing
