There's a name you don't hear much anymore. Well, maybe you do down in Texas, but I remember him being briefly popular on early MTV. Then I met someone in bootcamp, almost 10 years later, who was a fan. I told him I remember the video on MTV, where he's jumping into crowd, and this guy says, "Yeah, he had to stop doing that, because he did it one time, and the audience didn't catch him and he broke his leg". Then sometime within the last 15 or so years, I happened to find a copy of one of his early 80's albums, the one where he's on the cover with a Ted Newman guitar (checking Discogs, it looks like Party Weekend that I saw). Man, if I stil had a functioning record player, I'd have bought it.

I really prefer the 2. disc - the gig from Los Angeles Forum (October 19, 1968).
The 3 live tracks from the ordinary Goodbye album came from this.

Jan Garbarek, Bobo Stenson Quartet-Dansere, ECM--nice autumnal album.
Ahmed Abdul-Malik--Four Classic albums--new, still getting used to it. He plays a oud, multi-instrumentalist.
Cal Tjader & Stan Getz--Sextet, good one
    Arvo Part--Litany

I remember his MTV success as well, though I don't think he was ever going to be destined for big things. I saw him open for The Police in 1983 in Austin, and it was a blast (actually UB40 was on the bill too). Saw him in a few clubs and small venues as well over the years. He was always fun, and easy to chat with. I think he's living in Mexico nowadays for the most part, though I just looked on his website and he's actually doing some shows in England right now, surprisingly.

I'm living near Philly nowadays, and I don't think he gets up this way very often.
