Les Claypool's Frog Brigade: Live Frogs Set 2
Various: A Day in the Life: Impressions of Pepper

The thread about the upcoming Animals "tribute" release prompted me to pull out Claypool's live cover of the entire album. While the performance must have been a blast to see, the whole thing is far too faithful to the original album to make for compelling home listening. The same definitely cannot be said of Impulse's extraordinary and adventurous 21st century reimagining of Sgt Pepper. All the musicians take radical approaches, and some tracks have been so drastically reworked that it’s hard to find the connection to the original song. Mary Halverson's take on "With a Little Help from My Friends" is truly warped.

    And but also:

Firesign Theatre: Waiting for the Electrician or Someone Like Him
    Dizzy Gillespie: Afro

Dave's a super sweet guy--and he had a stroke recently, sadly, but is smiling and bouncing back!
