Oh wow! I found a used LP at my local record store nearly 10 years ago and nabbed it. "Day of the Dreamer" is one of my faves.

Yes, the first 2 tracks (Opening Out and Day of the Dreamer) are glorious and sounded pretty exceptional after all this time. Always had a soft spot for 'Back Home Once Again' too. And the title track.

Genesis - Duke, And Then There Were Three, Second's Out. Wind and Wuthering. It took me years to realize but Duke is a stunningly decent album.
What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound (2112)

Karda Estra - alternate history (compilation of early material)

I have no time for anything that came after, and I blow hot and cold on ATTW3, but except for the repulsive "Misunderstanding" I think Duke is really quite good.

I would not. I'd call it one notch above mediocre, and the worst album of their 1970-1980 run. If for no other reason than it has to be compared with what came before. It's the last album from the era that I collect and adore, but the first Abel Ganz had the same sound as Duke, and was admittedly a blatant copy, but was much better, imo. Duke has some high points, but the low points tend to wash the quality out. Imo.

Interesting, I’ve never heard Abel Ganz. But if it sounds like Duke, I may have to check that out.

Duke is one of my favorites, as I’m sure you’ve guessed. I’d rank it above Trespass and ATTWT, even though I love those records. The only weak spot for me is “Alone Tonight”, which I don’t even dislike, it just isn’t one of Mike’s better songs IMO. I think his song from Abacab (“Like It or Not”) is a much better tune, and carries more emotional weight musically.

^ I'd probably have Trespass at #2, so we're definitely not on the same page.

    As for Abel Ganz,

Yeah, you're right. And that's cool! I enjoy being able to discuss musical favorites and to learn what others like. Trespass has a lot of nostalgic value for me due to when I first bought it, and I'm always glad when others rate it highly. "Visions of Angels" is one of my faves from it.

Thanks for the link, I'm gonna give that a listen -- probably with some Oktoberfest.

In the past, I think I always heard Abel Ganz described as "neo-prog" and that's what kept me away. But in all fairness, there is some neo-prog that I enjoy even to this day. I'm usually just a bit hesitant to approach bands in that style, probably because I got over-saturated with it in my youth.

What's your #1 Genesis album by the way?

    Tribute - Breaking Barriers
    Tribute - New Views

Some might not like the eighties production on these but if you can get past that(which I can since I grew up then) this is some extremely good mostly instrumental symph prog.
