Thread: New YES album "The Quest" out 1 Oct

Crazy that they'd put another track on that tape--and at the end--that's not Geoff's. No wonder he thought it was his.

Also want to reiterate Dan's greatness.

    Probably done by some intern.

    Congratulations to Dan indeed.

Dan, could you now do something about the Waters-Gilmour feud ?

I just went to Amazon to preorder the CD and it's listed at $54! The only version listed is a 3 disk version. Hopefully they will release a 2 disc version at a more affordable price...

^Remember the price should acommodate Francis' royalties now. Fair enough.

Laser's Edge has the 2-disc edition for much less.

In my continued discussions with Francis today, he had asked me for a link to anything that Geoff had stated publicly. (I get the impression that social media is not his forte). I provided Geoff's tweets on the matter. Francis was less than pleased. "...That's what bothers me - he's dodging the issue. We talked in good faith, he admitted the error, and I expect him to honour that... just wrote to Martin at QEDG, to ask Geoff to clarify the situation on his page..."

Geoff has now done that - new tweets:

    1) Hi, in regard to my earlier tweet and to put the matter beyond any further debate…The Ice Bridge is sourced from a Francis Monkman composition “Dawn Of An Era” (Bruton Music) which I mistakenly assumed as being one of my own library pieces.
    2) It is a simple error on my behalf which I own up to. The YES track will now be credited as a Davison/Monkman/Downes composition. I trust this explains the situation in full, and there will be no further comment forthcoming. GD

Monkman was right, Downes should probably have admitted that from the outset. But if you share this with Monkman, maybe it might be okay to clarify that the social media scene can get a little.. toxic... at times, and commenting as a public figure is a delicate dance, which could be why it was delayed.

I was a bit nervous, because I know from the "Yuppet" stuff that Downes is a bit "prickly," but I do hope this doesn't cause any further strain.

And thank you again, Dan, for doing the (Prog) Lord's work.

I get the idea that Downes didn't even realize it was an issue until all of this was brought to his attention.

I don't believe anything underhanded was involved here, and it sounds like an equitable solution was reached.
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally

Does anyone know how to order the "Digital Album"? Looking to avoid contributing to needless plastic waste.

Freelance careers are strange things, and maybe those in the music business are stranger still. I say this as I’ve just had the most wonderful and unexpected experience. Since I was 14, I’ve really enjoyed the music of UK progressive rock band, YES. So to be asked to add orchestrations to their forthcoming album was indeed, a dream come true. Steve Howe is producing and my earlier orchestral work on his 2012 TIME album seems to have paved the way for this new collaboration. I prepared a full score and parts for the 47-piece band and recording took place remotely in Skopje, Macedonia. The FAMES orchestra with Oleg Kondratenko conducting made a wonderful sound and the subsequent mixes have met with approval. It wasn’t without risk. For the players to sight read your score, it must be of a sufficiently high standard to be legible and not open to queries and doubt, which can undermine the performance. Fortunately it all went well on this session. I am now keen to repeat the experience. I shall start saving now!

Until the next time, wishing you good health.

    Paul

You can pre-order it, getting "The Ice Bridge" immediately, at the usual places, e.g. US Amazon has it at https://amzn.to/3xe0OVA

Good spot! (I'd looked at his website when we knew he was involved, but completely missed that!)

This is North Macedonia's 2021 Eurovision entry. This is the same orchestra as on The Quest. They do tons of stuff, lots of soundtracks, lots of awards. They seem to be a commercial spin-off of the national broadcaster.

Joyce refers to Macedonia. One should refer to North Macedonia, as per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macedonia_naming_dispute
