All Things Must Pass 50 yr Anniversary Reissue Box. In or out?

Apparently, Dhani Harrison is assisting in the remixing and reissuing of this record and removing some of the Spectorisms that George, himself, regretted. It's apparently got a lot of other stuff on it such as demos, jams, etc. I guess my question is, are you gonna' spring for it? I bought the last reissue and would love to have a de-Spectorized version a la "Let it Be - Naked". I'm not really interested in the demos or the jams, so if the remixed original album itself becomes available, I'll probably grab it.

Just the 2CD / 3LP version - sure, it'll be available. There are pre-order links on Amazon, for example.

I am sentimentally attached to this album. It was my wife's gift to me on our first married Christmas, 1971. I will buy some version of the re-issue if only for that reason.

To begin with, of course, this year is the 51st anniversary. So they muffed that already.

The "Uber-Deluxe" box set version is so preposterously lavish that I am sorely, sorely tempted, and have to keep telling myself "You don't have room for that shit!"

The only thing that would make me consider that set would be its potential resale price in a couple of years when they're all long gone and somebody wants to lose five grand for it.

I think I would have been a little nervous if the first Christmas gift from my new wife was an album called All Things Must Pass.

I just saw a promo yesterday saying it's coming out in August (23?, 27?). I think it's six discs.

I'm in. I have the album in high res and it could still use some love. If the remixes are anything like the Beatles or Lennon, they will be revelatory. That said it's a different engineer so fingers crossed, as I've preordered the CD/BR set. Add the VDGG box I just preordered at Burning Shed, and it's been one helluva expensive day!

There are multiple versions, info here: https://www.georgeharrison.com/atmp50/

I am buying the Super Deluxe 5CD/BR box, described here:

The Super Deluxe Edition CD collects 70 tracks across 5 CDs including 47 (42 previously unreleased) demo recordings, session outtakes and studio jams all housed in a beautiful slipcase. A Blu-ray audio disc presenting the main album in hi-res stereo, 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos is also featured. The collection contains a beautiful 56-page scrapbook curated by Olivia Harrison, with unseen imagery and memorabilia from the era, handwritten lyrics, diary entries, studio notes, tape box images, a comprehensive track-by-track and more. It also includes a replica of the original album poster. Released 6th August.

And yet here we still are. There has been a very disturbing number of 50th anniversaries lately.

I suspect I'm going to buy the 5 disc digital version from Qobuz in 24 bit / 192kHz for $37.50 with a Sublime sub / $75 without.

    https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/album/al.../de1jgrt6glaca

Then I just have to decide how much of it I want on vinyl.

    Ooh! I’ll check it out.

While the Dripping Spectorism of “All Things...” isn’t nearly as bad as the totally out-of-control Spectorism on “Let It Be,” I’d love to hear more George and less Phil on “ATMP.”

Dhani is pretty much a genius so that also makes me want to splurge on this.

ATMP is some of the best George IMO.

(But “Marwa Blues” from George’s last CD makes me forget almost ALL music when I listen to it)

Wow, I just listened to the video trailer and the music with all of the reverb removed is a revelation. I'm going to have to get it. I think I'll just get the 2 CD version of the album remixed.

I'd like to hear "Brainwashed" as George intended it before Jeff Lynne defied his wishes and Jeff-Lynned it.

As much as I'd like the full set, I'll probably get the 2CD remix. I already have three discs of outtakes, the acetate and demos. But, there are some nice outtakes and jams on this set that I'd like to hear.

I have the original album on records and CDs. It would have to be pretty impressive for me to buy yet another version, but I'm willing to listen to it and see if I find it indispensable.

It's hard to understand why George and John wanted Phil Spector to produce their records. That guy stomps all over the artist and their record almost becomes a Phil Spector record. His heavy-handed style drowns out the voice of the original artist. I'd say the same about some other producers, namely Todd Rundgren, but I like Todd's "imprint" a lot more than Spector's. In fact, I've bought a lot of albums just because Todd produced them.

I expect George and John wanted him precisely because they loved the old records that he had stomped all over and made his own.

I was not aware of that dynamic; please direct me towards where I can read about that. (I am aware that George couldn’t finish the record but I thought it was mostly Dhani that filled in the remaining bits.)

Jeez, you'll have to look for a link. I recall that George wanted a bare-bones final product and Jeff Lynne did his own thing with it, instead.

EDIT: I could be mistaken about this, but that's what I recall.
