Thanks! This is an exciting story of the forthcoming documentary. I am looking forward to watching this next week. I continue to be amazed by Jackson's video restoration of what I recall to be crappy looking footage

SHM sounds warmer than CD. Not the music, just the name: "SHM." "CD" has such an awful, tinny sound.

SHM does have a certain "woody" sound, doesn't it?

I wish they would fix up the entire 51 hours of film and put it out on Bluray. 20 BR discs, maybe a price of $399. I bet they would sell a lot of them.

Or sell it on a flash-drive (again).

A Terabyte USB "BeatleStick" would make a ton of cash.

I apologise if this doesn't add much to what's already known (the film's 'imminent' release has been rumbling on for ages), but I found it interesting so decided to post. Just this 'sneak peek of Get Back' clip seems to cut right across my understanding of why the band broke up.

    https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-r...p-for-52-years

I found this interesting: 'Knowing what he now knows, it’s a mystery to Jackson why each Beatle, along with their producer George Martin, always viewed the Let It Be sessions with such hatred – but he has a theory. “I’m convinced they were all remembering May 1970 and their reaction to the movie upon release, rather than how they felt filming it,” he says.'

Latest news update - The 3 episodes now add up to over 8 hours, as opposed to 6. Two of the episodes are well above 2 hours long.

I have to prep my wife for being a Beatles widow for a few nights. It could be worse, it could be football.

Of course, snacks would be nice!

    Strawberries
    Some kind of yellow custard
    Chocolate Truffles
    Mustard

    etc.

Did the next moment include pottery clay and listening to The Righteous Brothers?

I've heard, if you listen to Thriller backwards, it sounds like listening to Thriller backwards...whoa dude, did you hear that?

Geez, I love these guys, but this wasn't even that great an album, Spector or not Spector. By the time it got to Mal Evans surreptitiously picking his nose, I'd be kind of done.

^^^ yeah but you never know where the really interesting stuff is going to be. Even if it is just to satisfy my completist tendencies, I would buy a 51 hour set of this...

I'm about ready to dive in and see what these Beatles are all about. Anyone else catch the first part?

Yes, and it was well worth the wait. Can't wait to see the next two parts. I won't say more, no spoilers from me, but it's great to see the genesis of familiar songs, it's enlightening beyond being about the Beatles, it's about the creative process, the personal interactions inside the band, the outside pressure. It also puts to rest a lot of myths and oversimplifications.

The technical side alone is incredible. I watched a YT interview with Peter Jackson where they showed what the latest softwares and advances in AI were now able to perform with an average mono source of a band playing or, in the Beatles' case, making noises with their guitars to prevent some of their conversations from being audible - Jackson showed how they were able to let you hear the voice alone, the guitars alone (not individual guitars though) etc. And said hushed conversations, now rid of any guitars (and sounding as if there had never been noise on top of them). It's really stupefying. We can now expect actual remixes of the early albums.

It's an interesting review and it's probably applicable to the majority of casual fans. I haven't yet watched the first episode (just caught a few minutes so far). But, I'm likely to fall into the category that wouldn't mind watching Jackson's 15-hour 1st cut.

Reviewer comes off as a real asshole. I guess he's paid to shit on things. Instead of whining, how about some informed insights? "Nope, that's not my job."

Really? Not the review I read. Alex Petridis is actually a journalist with rather a decent rep.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexis...is?wprov=sfla1

I'm kind of on fence about the films at this moment. As a fabs fan of course I am looking forward to seeing them but I have to agree with Petridis about Jackson's propensity for bloat. He has always been his own worst editor.

Anyways, part one for me this weekend, the proof will be in the pudding. At least my daughter will have Disney + for Xmas if nothing else. The inevitable Blu-ray will hopefully enable us to prune PJ's worst excesses.

I'm hoping that the Blu-ray will have the extended director's cut!
