I bought my vinyl copy of Epic Forest from a second hand record shop or a record fair & it came without the bonus single. So now I've only just heard these three songs - & they're terrific. On Roadside Welcome the Bird go all CSNY - & on You're Lost they really rock!

I watched an unboxing of this set on YouTube and saw that it comes with a poster of a painting I recognized as "The Fairy-Feller's Master Stroke" (inspiration for the Queen song). Didn't see any text on it. What's the connection to Rare Bird?

Can anyone confirm whether the box set version of the first album has the usual tape-speed issues, e.g., "God of War" slowing down 16 seconds in?

^Yes that's what I want to know. If I remember rightly it's easily checked- whether the first track 'Beautiful Scarlet' is in (the wrong, usual) B minor or (the correct) C minor.

Now there's a gig I'd have loved to have gone to, Rare Bird and BJH in the same place on the same evening. I suppose we'll never know how they arranged this, did they alternate who finished the evening? Anyway very much looking forward to a real RB splurge when the box set comes out.

The booklet supplies the answer to this. It was a BJH gig, with the RB as support. I am saving that CD to last to listen to, but I notice that the set list was drawn exclusively from their last two releases. What no Sympathy? Yep, no Sympathy.

Meanwhile I am listening to As Your Mind Flies. Never caught up with that one until now. Flight is impressively barmy .............. or a band padding out an album for which they hadn't got enough material. Take your pick.

Rare Bird has landed! Received the set in the post yesterday. looks & sounds fantastic.
Here is a review I found and an unboxing video. This release will hopefully elevate the awareness of this great band.

I enjoyed going thru my box tonight. I was a little peeved to find that they put the 1971 version of "Red Man" on the As Your Mind Flies By disc instead of Epic Forest where it belongs. Makes me wonder why they are so dumb at Esoteric. I enjoyed reading the booklet as well, but 80% of the essay talked about the first year of the band's existence, with barely anything about their Polydor years.
