Farewell to a giant of experimental songwriting. A visionary of a uniquely experimental yet deeply moving songwriting of universal character. One of a kind.
RIP Ghédalia Tazartès.

I wasn't a zealous fan of GT and don't want to pretend like I was...but I remember reading about him in The Wire for the first time and just kind of being dazzled at the idea of this brilliant, inventive and completely self-contained artist. In that regard, he was like Conrad Schnitzler for me. I bought a couple of his albums and while they weren't my immediate favorites, they were absolutely like nothing else I'd heard. And that was kind of awesome.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Any time any one speaks to me about any musical project, the one absolute given is "it will not make big money". [tip of the hat to HK]
"Death to false 'support the scene' prog!"
please add 'imo' wherever you like, to avoid offending those easily offended.
That album he did about a decade back with Jac Berrocal and some third French guy, Superdisc or what, was actually very listenable. Sad to hear about his passing.
I only had one other Tazartès release, and I recall it as on the AYAA-label and from some time in the mid-90s or thereabout. I remember selling it off along with Axolotl's Outmaneuvre, another completely oddball French release (on Cryonic, IIRC) which wasn't all bad but just couldn't get my tics picking.
Anyone ever wonder why there were always so many zanies out of France?
