Black Country New Road debut album 'For The First Time' out 5/2/21

So today sees the release of BCNR's debut album!

For those of you who don't know, Black Country New Road are a British band that have been growing and playing live for a few years. They've finally released their debut album today!

I hadn't seen any mention of them on here yet and thought they would probably appeal to most progressive music fans. They sound a bit Crimson-esque to me but there's probably a lot more influences that I've never heard of.

I've enjoyed them so far. Quite an unusual entry on the pop album charts, even making #4 in the UK!

It's very good, just discovered these guys, black midi & Squid who seem to all be part of the same London based experimental post punk revival. Good stuff.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Frontman & co-founder Isaac Wood has left the band. They've canceled the NA tour. They'll still release the new album & the band says they will continue without him.

Is English not Wood's first language? Also, what does this part of the article mean?:

“So that’s what things would be like if I’d invented the fing-longer.” - Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth, Anthology of Interest I"

From this is sort of sounds like he's gone Syd Barrett on them.

    Interesting announcement from the band

We’re excited to announce our first show in Japan. We will be playing Fuji Rock Festival on 31st July
Along with all our upcoming shows we will be performing a set of new music - we won’t be performing anything from For The First Time or Ants From Up There
So they are going forward but understandably not playing any previous music.

This is surprising. The band seemed to be getting some popularity and success, including with a younger crowd.

Sounds like he had a breakdown of sorts or needed to quit to avoid one.

The debut was a very good album and mega-recommended. Can't say the same for the second though...

I like the second one a lot. It was top 3 on the year for me (amongst prog albums)

Both albums are good. A bit different from eachother but thats a good thing too.

Great to hear that they carry on. Curious with what they will come up next.

Going to see them in May. If their Bush Hall-album isn’t Prog, I don’t know what is!

Hurray! They added extra dates to their US & Canada tour due to selling out so fast. Grabbed a ticket for 9/17 matinee show in Cambridge

Black Country, New Road has since released one studio album and one live album, but the band's debut For The First Time is still my personal favourite. A fascinating and quirky album! I wrote a review of it: https://pienemmatpurot.com/review-bl...rst-time-2021/
