SailGP And Americas Cup - Sailboat Racing

The next SailGP will regatta be next weekend:
    https://sailgp.com/about/2021/

If you aren't familiar with SailGP, thing of it as close to "Formula 1 for sailboats", and a filler series for the gaps between the 4-yearly Americas Cup.

Both race series feature VERY expensive boats that push the bounds of technology as never before, and these boats can sail more than 3 times the speed of the wind that powers them. They've recorded speeds of over 60mph. Hard to wrap your head around that concept!

    I particularly enjoy SailGP because

    1) It's a fleet race, not just the 1:1 challenge racing we see in America's Cup

    2) Each of the weekend's 4 races lasts less than an hour - so it's action-packed!

    3) The boats are strictly what we call "one design" in the sport. I.e. each boat is identical, so it's all up to the sailors.

    4) These are national teams racing against each other. (Okay - so they hire skippers / sailors from other countries - but there's still a certain national pride attached.)

It isn't yet clear where the next America's cup will be held, but we do know that the boats will be essentially the same as in the last series.
    Regards,

    Duncan

Watching a recording of the three day-1 SailGP races in Australia.

55 mph sailboats, short races ... what a blast to watch!

I'd love to sail one of those insane speed machines.
    Regards,

    Duncan

The 6 races in Sydney were incredible. Strong winds, fast boats, TONS of action, and unexpected results.

    What a blast!

Dude.... how did no one on the GB team NOT see Japan!!!!! WTF?!

And Spain - after looking strong in early races, kinda coasted to end + woulda been cool to see Japan sneak into race final with frankenboat even with missing races!

I'm suddenly in the mood to listen to some yacht rock.
