Of all the names that were floated, Guardians was the one I would have chosen. Not that I care all that much, it's Baseball, so... I was afraid they were going to go retro and name them the Spiders, as some fans wanted.
Spiders were an NL team who’s last season was 1899. They died when their owners bought the St Louis franchise and preceded to transfer all their best players to St Louis. The 1899 put up the worst record ever for a major league team and folded. After that, owners could only have a stake in 1 team.

I wasn’t a fan of the name Cleveland Guardians but tying it into the Cleveland statues makes it much more palatable.

It was a good way of taking the giddy edge off seeing the Yanks steal 3 bases and put some pressure on the defense, forcing an error. Smh

Okay, maybe they didn't blow it on the name. But they did on the logo.

^ I agree. I would expect it to change eventually.

Guardians of Traffic, I'm told are the names of the statues.

Sounds like a good name for a rock band. Not so much for the baseball team. Spiders would have been much better. Just think of the marketing. I remember my ex getting a purple D'backs shirt, when those were the team colors they never should have gotten rid of, with a really cool rattler on it. Kinda bad ass and Spiders could have done the same.

We get statues and any idiot with some masking tape will rid the name of the first few letters and spell Indians. In my eyes, a fail.

    Why Spiders?

    How about The Cleveland Slickers?

    The Cleveland Aborigines?

Spiders is a terrible name. You're going to name your team after a bug that can get crushed by stepping on, or sucked up by a Shop-Vac? Woo, aren't you guys the fearsome lot. Add to that, Spiders does not reference the city, and so fails at the main goal of the naming committee. No, I'll take Guardians, thank you.

I think I would have left German in to face at least one more batter.

How about the Cleveland Full Clevelands, and their uniforms would have pastel blue uniforms with white belts, wide lapels on the jersey, and white shoes? For the road unis they could switch to plaid. There's precedent for this, since there are currently 3 MLB teams named after their own clothing.

The same owner had previously had his team put up a guy with an extremely small strike zone to bat, had ashtrays built into his artificial leg, hired a clown as base coach, let the crowd vote on managerial decisions, came up with the exploding scoreboard for homers, and came up with Disco Demolition Night, among other things.

The Sox just had their 33rd come-from-behind victory of the season, out of 62 wins so far.

I don't see how that could be sustainable, but they make it fun to watch.

    Yankees trade for Joey Gallo.

Reports are for 5-6 prospects, but no top ones. Plus, they got a lefty reliever.

I like this deal. I'd rather have a contact hitter, but his numbers are really good, he fills a huge hole in the outfield, and he's a lefty.

The season is still lost, but they'll have him for next year, too.

His numbers indicate that he's a left handed version of Gary Sanchez. Considering that the Yankees have been so bad at the plate that a bunch more Gary Sanchez' on either side of the plate would significantly improve their lineup, this has to count as a good thing. 2010-2011 Mark Teixeira is also a good comp.

I definitely don't consider this season lost. i think it's more likely than not that the Yankees will be in the wild card game. And with Gerrit Cole on the mound, they'll be the favorite no matter who the opponent is or where the game is played.

His numbers are considerably better than Sanchez's.

I have little hope for this team. They are currently the fourth-best in the division, despite their record of third-best. If they make the WC game and win with Cole, then they'll be lucky if he has two starts in the first round. Not a good scenario.

Stanton is their poison pill right now. He's beyond awful.

Cole gets SLAMMED by the Rays. He has been totally inconsistent since the sticky stuff ban.

They just cannot get a sweep ... ever.

Is there anything better than a walk-off grand slam?
