    Happy 79th Johnny "Mac"!

A bit late, but John McLaughlin's birthday was yesterday, 1/4!

Calling him a legendary musician, is an understatement.
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell

Congrats! So glad I saw him in a small church about 10 years ago with a stellar band!
What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound (2112)

    Huh.

I knew there probably was a reason I pulled 'Birds of Fire' out and listened to it yesterday

Love the man. Saw him a bunch of times
3 times with Mahavishnu Mark 1 and 1 time with Mark 2
    Once with Shakti
Once with the One Truth Band
And once with the Tony Williams Lifetime, before I really knew who he was.
I'm not lazy. I just work so fast I'm always done.

For Christmas, I received two of the 'Shakti - With John McLaughlin' CDs - A Handful of Beauty and Natural Elements.
I am enjoying them both, especially the interaction with L. Shankar on violin; I can see the progression from Mahavishnu Orch to this ..
It also has excellent production; the guitar is very clear

If you don't have it yet, the first Shakti album is also essential. To go from screaming Marshall amps in front of thousands of rock fans to sitting on the floor playing esoteric music with a group of Indian guys is an amazing development, even all these years later.

Thank goodness John McLaughlin takes care of himself. May he celebrate 79 more.
