    You most welcome kind sir!!!

There is actually a thread about it on the Facebook Avant Progressive site too where I originally questioned the sound quality but...after communicating with Gabriel and talking to others in that group, I listened to it through loudspeakers and my complaints about distortion and muddy mixing were completely thrown to the wayside. A stereo loudspeaker listen revealed a very warm and still detailed mix with excellent separation, something hard to do given we are dealing with a large ensemble.

This one ranks as one of my favorites of the year!

I think this one is gonna be a good one once it releases...until then, check out the teaser cut, it smokes! (And it some ways it reminds me of some of that old school Downtown scene stuff like Curlew or early Doctor Nerve but much looser, and that is definitely not a bad thing!)

Didn't he also do a rendition of that twisted intro to "The Decay of Cities"?

I always thought those skewed and bizarre chords rested on out-/retuning, and was quite set off on finally learning how they actually weren't. It was Hodgkinson's piece, of course - so this explains a bit.

    Obviously, here it it:

Btw, did any of you hear this?

And just to think that this was actually transcribed from what a -band- initially played, as opposed to the opposite!

You misunderstand the term "inspired by". The latter means "attempting to sound exactly as, and with the same hat, hairdo and cosmetic". Not, for instance, "trying to be as artistically creative as" or anything as silly as that.

I mean, that'd be pretentious and you wouldn't even have heard about it in here except for the efforts of the buggers.

At this point I have no recollection at all what were talking about! So confusion remains consistent!

Manna/Mirage : Man Out Of Time (US, 2021)

Man Ouf Of Time is probably my the favourite avant-progish album of this year. I am not huge The Muffins fan but this album by their former keyboard player Dave Newhouse is quite brilliant. Great melodic songs rich instrumentation with just enough rough edges and shade of Canterbury influence too. And one song has tremendous guitar cameo by Fred Frith.

I think that it is a really a clear, direct lineage from what Dave did with the Muffins to what Dave is doing on his own, so I am surprised you didn’t like what he did before, but I do agree that his new one is excellent.

Well... I did not say that I don't like The Muffins it is just that I don't LOVE them like I do many other "big time" avant-prog bands

<185> is my favourite The Muffins album. Pretty cool stuff.

I am glad that you consider them in the ‘big time’; I see all their heads getting larger and larger already!!

I consider them to be one of the major names in the context of avant-prog scene yes. And I would like to think that I am not lone in this opinion.

^ Knowing your tastes, Chronometers and Manna/Mirage would be right up your alley too.

"Not Alone" (from 185) is one of my favorite recordings by any American band post-Mothers/Zappa. Paul Sears' drumming here features among the most impressive I heard in rock at all. But you need to hear the whole thing to grasp how come!

Manna/Mirage I have and it is brilliant in parts but I find it little bit uneven. Chronometers I have never heard.
