Really digging these guys debut album, they've got another one coming out soon, man they look young, seem to be getting lots of good press.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Univers Zero : Phosphorescent Dreams (BE, 2014)
The final UZ album. Magnificent music and I don't think it pales significantly compared to any Univers Zero album.

    Masterpiece

EDIT: kind of made me feel that it wouldn't be bad if they had more of this easier-to-grasp songs. And I obviously like the denser stuff a lot.

    Hello avant chums!

I think this is my first time on the site in six months. Life has been incredibly busy and sadly I've had so little time for music, though I'm otherwise OK. Unbelievably, I think I've only bought a couple of albums this year! Did I miss much...?

I got a little inspiration this morning listening to a track from The Holy Family's album that's coming out soon...was expecting it to be more Guapo-esque, but the vibe really feels somewhere between Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses and Future Kings of England. Very nice indeed.

I'll never find a source for this, but my recollection is that the actual significance of the name OOIOO relates to a doodle one of the band members did of double suns rising, reflected in water. You have to orient the name vertically not horizontally...

Great band. Totally visceral, but out there - a combination I love.

    New tracks from Angel Ontalva:

    https://soundcloud.com/angelontalva/...a-doppelganger

Avant-ish fusion with the inimitable Ontalva touch seems to be the bag here. These will feature on a forthcoming CD, Angel On A Tower. Autobuy for me as with everything of his.

I bought the new Jack O' the Clock today, and already listened to it about three times. Very good! Someone said it was pretty complex for such accessible music - very true!

    ^ That's a very good call.

Check the separate J O' tC-thread for suggestions as to back-catalog - once you've acquainted sufficiently with this new one, I mean.

They are one of my fave current bands overall. Along with Cheer-Accident and a handful others. This stuff is where it's at.

^ I’ve listened to some of the others, but not recently. Will be revisiting them!

Yes, all of their albums are worthy. Even the one with cover songs!

^ That covers album is surely different - but solid nonetheless. They're a bit more idiosyncratic and quirky in their interpretations than, say, Steven Wilson.

All Jack releases are highly worthwhile. as already mentioned several times here. All My Friends and both parts of Repetitions are my faves. I still haven't got around to hearing this new one.

I have to buy it from Steve F. He'll get moneys.

I think my older Jack cds are CDRs....were these ever reissued on regular CDs or is that 'Howe' they roll? Just curious, will still sound the same.

People should read'n'learn about those darn concepts of genre. Belonging to one doesn't omit you from others. Unless it's commerce-country vs. black metal or something. I mean, black metal may sit well with some country, but not the commercial type. At least it'd come out as very original, almost like avant-prog. Y'know.
    Well said.

Musica d' Repuesto is a band formed in Habana some 30 years ago, of which I knew nothing about. I bumped upon this new release, which is simply an astonishing piece of contemporary avant/progressive rock music.

    WoW!
    Gracias Zappa!

I have and recommended from them
    “aV abuC”.

Another names to look for from “La Isla” (Cuba) are:
    - Perfume de Mujer.
    - Sebastián El Toro.
    - Naranja Mecánica.
    - Grupo de Experimentación Sonora del ICAIC.

There is a nice compilation from Luna Negra Records of interest:

“Variaciones en La Cuerda vol 1:
Una Visión del Rock en Cuba”:

    Thanks for the H.U. Zappa!
    Pura vida !

^ The only official Repuesto release was aV abuC some 20-25 years ago on the Luna Negra label. It was released in tandem with two other Cuban groups, Perfume de Mujer and Naranja Mecanica.

These are all essential contemporary progressive artifacts, vastly removed from FB and YT by "order of request" from, er, someone. I bought them from Cutler's ReR-catalog back in the day, and I'm damn glad I did. That Naranja CD especially consists of some fiercely frenetic post-Tull'ian systems of tone.

Agree a 100% with you, Richard!!.
I bought all of them on a trip I made to Querétaro, México, directly from Juan José, former Luna Negra Records and nowadays in charge of Azafrán Records, his "baby".
