    Tony Rice RIP

Sad to see this news. I only discovered his music in the last 4-5 years. A great bluegrass musician but with an ear to many other styles and blending bluegrass with other styles sort of became his trademark. This is a very entertaining concert with his band playing almost as much jazz as bluegrass:

    RIP Tony Rice

Jake uploaded his thread a few minutes before I finished mine so the mods can ditch mine due to redundancy.

Heard about this last night. Manzanita is still one of my favs, a top 3 bluegrass favorite. In his prime his voice was unbelievably great and his playing is beyond influential. If you don't know his work, you have some gems to discover. RIP to the master flatpicker of our generation.

I discovered him in the mid 80s. I'd characterize his music along with Mark O'Connor: impossible to pigeonhole.

Sorry to hear this. I have long admired Tony's guitar playing and have several of his solo albums, and those with David Grisman, and Rice, Grisman, and Jerry Garcia. A great loss. Rest in peace.
