Has there been anything official on this yet?
Regardless, I've had the opportunity to perform several of his works, and even have luch with him once. One hell of a nice guy.
I tried to see him last year at Big Ears but it didn't happen (well, I think I heard about three notes of his behind the band before he exited the stage). I wasn't wanting to see this news but I'm also not entirely shocked.
RIP to a giant.

I've spent a lot of late evenings listening to this wonderful music. RIP Mr. Budd.
The older I get, the better I was.
My old pal, also gone, CW Vrtacek / Chuck O’Meara got me to appreciate Harold.

Very sad. I've been a fan since the first Budd/Eno album came out, and have bought a lot of his albums over the years. RIP
Love Plateaux of Mirror and The White Arcades.
Very sad to hear this.

Damn! HB has been one of my most consistent dream weavers over the last few years. [emoji22]

Jesus...8 posts for his passing. That's truly sad.

^ Don't think I've heard a note. But the passing of most people is a loss, so, sad to read.
Oh no. I don't have a ton of his music but I own and Loooove Winter Garden. It's the perfect soundtrack for this type of cold overcast slightly snowy day in the northeast. RIP.

Yes, that is my favourite as well. The Plateaux of Mirror is very good as well. Of his solo works, I like The Pavillion of Dreams and The White Arcardes best. There is something really captivating about the atmosphere the latter conjures up.
A great Ambient musician who was never an Ambient musician. RIP.
First heard of Harold Budd on the EG sampler Angels in the Architecture. Was surprised to find he was only a year younger than my dad! Lovely music he made - White Arcades, The Pearl, Lovely Thunder, Luxa, and his work with Brian Eno.

Mother FUCK! I didn't know he was that old, but still. I listened to a few of his solo and w/Eno albums a lot back in the 80s, and New Sounds on NPR used to play his music a lot. More sad news (I lost a friend to COVID last weekend; he was old too, and had recently had surgery).
I don't think you can really judge the overall response by the number of posts in one day. I just saw this now.
In grad school in the 90's I discovered that the music of certain "ambient" artists (I know Budd didn't like this term...) was very conducive to writing. Probably the best of all were Eno's Discreet Music and Thursday Afternoon. But there was also Budd's Pavilion of Dreams. No idea where my CD copy is of this, but most of it is deeply etched into my memory, so I don't really need it... RIP.

Fair point.
When I saw him @ Big Ears in 2019 he seemed exceptionally frail, and in fact only played a few notes before leaving the stage, so the rest of the ensemble finished the piece without him.
Unless I misread, it was COVID that did him in too, which somehow stings even more for whatever reason.

It was one that I overlooked for quite a while because it was stuck at the end of the CD release of Serpent in Quicksilver (which is good but not my favorite). At some point I stopped to give it a bit more focus and was just immediately entranced.
The other tune that has always been high on my personal fave list is from Moon + the Melodies:
