The same people who are in one band can write specifically for a different band's album. It may not be what first comes to mind but that's actually the most likely thing. That said, I don't know what material was offered to Yes or not. Just saying that despite there being common band members it is a separate thing.
I certainly understand that it’s an organic process — multiple processes occurring simultaneously, probably — and even the principals may not be able to fully trace the evolution and purposing of every song or part of a song. And regarding Howe’s role, surely I jest.

My main point is that the overall sonic impression, in my mind and to my ear, is Yessian. Is it to say that somebody is doing a Howe impression and somebody else is trying to sound just like Squire? Not as much as it is to say that a lot of the music has moments where a spotlight seems to shine for an instant on a guitar tone or a vocal harmony or a bass entrance, and in that moment the impression of the sound is so Yes-like that it colors what follows. Sort of like early Starcastle.

I think whether it's Billy on his own or with Jon, especially while on tour with Yes, and they're writing a song they may not know which band or project it's going to go on necessarily and perhaps decide afterward where it would go. That's what I do sometimes with my solo albums and various bands/projects like In Continuum. Or they're writing something deliberately to go on either a Yes album or an Arc of Life album or something else. I can only tell you that this album was not the "would have been disc 2" of The Quest. But, of course, Jon D sings in Yes (as does Billy) and it's in their blood, hearts and minds to write in that general style. I look forward to writing with them hopefully on the next album as I too have a big Yes influence even if I lean a bit more toward Genesis and Pink Floyd stylistically.

In fact, guitarist Fernando Perdomo and I have been working on a separate Yes-like project that really blends an early 70's Yes influence with King Crimson and Pink Floyd especially in this one particular track. I might ask Billy and Jon to play and sing on it. It's a whole batch of different sounding material that needs a home so we'll probably build a project around it or release under our project called "Squids Out To Sea".

Yes. No pun intended. Who's on first?

Sherwood's the lead vocalist on both Arc of Life albums. I'm going off the credits which are available on Tidal which I’m using these days instead of Spotify.

Sherwood and Davison co-wrote all of the tracks on the first album. They co-wrote three on the current one with Sherwood writing two others alone and co-writing one with Jimmy Haun.

Just given the current one a third listen. It’s grown on me a bit this evening, so I’ll keep listening.

Both Billy and Jon are the lead vocalists. I'm going off being in the band. Haha. Glad it's growing on you!

The credits in printed in the actual CD booklet list Jon and Billy as "Vocals" (or "Vocals and..."). On their Facebook page they list themselves as "vocalist Jon Davison, bassist/vocalist Billy Sherwood."

As I listen, the lead vocalist is generally either Jon or "waiting for Jon to take over from Billy." Sorry, Dave. I know what I like.

    I look forward to that.

However, Don't Look Down is sinking in my estimation as I listen to it more!

You don't have to apologize to me. I don't sing one word on it.

I happen to like Billy's voice though. Although I do also generally prefer a more natural vocal sound than one with a lot of processing. I also hope we'll all sing on the next album as well. I've found my voice blends well with Jon Davison's. If you guys haven't heard what Jon sang on the two In Continuum albums I did you should check them out here

The liner notes credit you with vocals!

They do? Well that's incorrect. I would have liked to have sang on it though and I will be singing when we play live.

Between you, Billy and Jon there's a good opportunity for some intricate vocal lines and harmonies, I think. I had the pleasure of seeing you perform on Cruise to the Edge a few years back and really enjoyed the show and your singing style.

One of the things I enjoy about YesWest is that they had three strong vocalists in Anderson, Rabin and Squire, allowing for some great arrangements. In Continuum has already shown the way with some great use of contrasting Davison/Squids vocals.
