Based on the Yacht-rock thread, in which the Arista-label was mentioned, I thought it would be nice to see what peoples favorites of this label are.

According to Wiki, Camel has appeared on Arista but I wasn't able to figure out which releases.

The two Happy The Man albums wer eof course classics.

GTR I think is decent for what it is.

I've got the two Camel albums that were released on Arista, but I don't remember about either, except for Eye Of The Storm (which I actually knew from the Happy The Man recording first).

I have one Caravan album they released, Blind Dog At St Dunstan's, but again, I don't remember a whole lot like it, apart from the great album cover artwork.

I believe the first couple Flock Of Seagulls records had some kind of Arista connection, those were great records.

The ABWH record was pretty good, Union was...so-so (I love the first three tracks, Lift Me Up, and the rest of it was big question mark to me).

Some of the Kinks stuff Arista was pretty good. I never had the albums, but I always thought Predictable, State Of Confusion itself, and Do It Again were all great songs.

The first Mama's Boys album was pretty happening, too. They also did a great version of If The Kids Are United.

Most of the Grateful Dead studio albums they put out had their moments. Go To Heaven is really the only one I'd flush.

In fact, Camel ended up recording a version of Eye Of The Storm, which was one of the pieces that HTM had recorded during the session that was eventually released a few years later as 3rd/Better Late...

Breathless and I Can See Your House From Here. The latter features Kit Watkins of Happy The Man fame. These albums were first released on vinyl, and Arista was one of the labels.

Former Church guitarist Marty Willson-Piper told me the PM Gong records were some of his favorite records by anybody.

I always enjoyed those early Jeff Lorber Fusion albums. His first couple were on Inner City, but then released a trio on Arista.

Hermann Szobels' Szobel came out on Arista in '76.

^^^ Yes, good call on Szobel. I love that wild, wacky record. How on earth Clive Davis could have possibly thought that thing would sell is anybody's guess.

Big on the Pierre Moerlen albums also.

That Szobel release is simply astounding!

Thx to Ken Golden for reissuing this sucker on CD; certainly one of the most genuinely eccentric yet virtuosic US progressive/fusion albums from the latter half of the 70s.

Since I'm also from Europe my Arista collection isn't as large as it could have been. Happy The Man-LP's were imports for example.

Lot of original Arista-albums, like Szobel, were later released on CD's by other labels, so I guess my Arista collection is larger than it looks like.

Yeah, when i first replied i didn't fully realised that top cat is a US resident and the camel albums apparently were released on the arista label overthere (didn't knew that).
