Gang,
I never paid proper attention to trumpeter Clifford Brown until last night when I heard "Study in Brown" (1955) with Max Roach - wow!
I've been listening to several of his albums and I really excited: what a great trumpeter/musician, a legend and it's a pity that he died too early, he was 25 years old:
"After playing, Richie Powell and his wife took Brown on the long drive to Chicago for the next gig. The rain was heavy. The road, slick. When they lost control, the car careered off the road, killing all three."
Right now I'm playing "Jazz Immortal" from 1954: great album and legacy!
Anyone else?

"When I heard Gary was going to make a recording of some of my music, I was, of course extremely flattered. But upon hearing it, I was moved to tears. This recording is beautiful, magic. Absolutely true to the spirit of the music
Not only does he showcase the compositions in a very beautiful and classical way, but more so and without a doubt, showcases his truly amazing talent. Thank you Gary Husband so very, very much.”

"The CD version of this old recording appears to be no longer! I wasn’t even informed! To my dismay I discovered it can only be purchased for a somewhat extravagant sum in the form of a used copy on eBay or some such location. Great shame. Therefore, I will claim, here is the definitive version, in the medium we seem to have available to us - lovingly optimised and remastered by the great Markus Reuter."
It is my wholehearted wish you enjoy it.

A reissue of pianist Mike Taylor's trio record(1966) and one track of his quartet release(1965),with three tracks of his compositions played by Cream. Why this label couldn't issue this as a two cd set with all of the quartet tracks is beyond me.That being said, it's good to have this.CD available from Squidco.

Just discovered this woman. She makes some excellent modern jazz music.
I just saw that Herbie Hancock has a US tour coming up for autumn 2021. He'll be playing the Paramount in Seattle, and I'll probably be going. Based on the most recent footage it looks like he's doing more of a career retrospective type of show. Anyone else got any info?
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

Steve Coleman / Kevin Eubanks / Marvin "Smitty" Smith
Great material on the Extensions album. Holland's The Oracle is the centerpiece of this record. I have a couple of the later albums with Chris Potter but for my ears Steve Coleman is a one of a kind musician with an unmistakable voice on alto sax.
For me, Extensions is kind of a musical successor to/combination of Conference of the Birds and the Gateway trio. Coleman is great, and to my ears very much comes out of a place similar to Braxton/Rivers. Eubanks was a revelation to me on Extensions, but I lost track of him when he moved to LA and started doing the Tonight Show.

Happy with what I have to be happy with.
It's probably my favorite Eubanks performance along with a couple of his early solo albums. I'm also revisiting the Holland albums with Kenny Wheeler. Seeds Of Time, and The Razor's Edge.
Yeah. Extensions is groovy. I really like the late 90's/early 2000's quintet stuff, too. Saw them a few times. Once with Antonio Hart on alto and a couple times with Potter. Smokin' live band. Steve Nelson on vibes was super cool.
That Holland big band CD I just got is real nice. Recorded really well with some cool tunes. Basically the quintet augmented by another six or seven players.

After the success of their debut album "The Haywain", Belgrade's quartet Hashima returns with their new album called "Starry Night", released in April of this year on the U.S. label Odradek Records. The album represents an uncanny reflection of their life in Belgrade, as well as 'progressive jazz' ideas.
Also, this amazing album features guest star Gianluca Petrella, one of the most famous jazz trombonists in Europe. "Starry Night" contains the group's previously unreleased, first-ever studio recording of a "Junkopedia", the piece composed for a short film about Serbian fantasy-painter Leonid Šejka, as well as an inspiring live version of the song "Release" which is performed with a choir.
