That does not mean it is good. It is okay but still fairly disappointing. For me the most exiting moments are when he just plays jazz.

What do others think of this one? Trane?
Haven't heard this one yet... but I'll pay arttention

TBF, we(ve been flooded with Maalouf releases o, just about everything he's laying his hands upon (he was even playing piano on yet another OST soundtrack (but can't remember the film's name as I write),

AFAIAC, his "proggier" albums are Red & Black Light and Illusions.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

I think those two are quite good. But his new one....I dunno. A bit over the top and the melodies are not that exiting, however his playing is still outstanding.

I haven't heard the new one, but I like Illusions and esp. Red and Black Light......he's doing some interesting microtonal stuff, but the grooves are often pedestrian.

The members of the AEC are wrongly identified in that 1978 photo. Should be Mitchell, Jarman, Moye, Favors.

Finally? It came out about 3 months ago. But yeah, it's great! Hard to believe it's been "lost" all this time!

Yes I know! ;-) ... “finally” because it is until now that I can hear it completely and properly No Pride.

Depends on what you're looking for. If you want something electric, there's David Torn, John Abercrombie, Terje Rypdal. The Metheny is also a real nice album. I bought the Eberhard Weber, Steve Tibbetts, Barre Phillips, John Surman, and Towner/Burton.
If you want piano, Bobo Stenson or Mike Nock.

The Leo Smith is a great album too. I got that in the AEC box.

I didn't see the fifty albums listed - only the 25 shown in the picture...

BTW, this is relatively tempting with those mini-Lp carboard sleeves.

Those one sound like I would go for it

John Surman/John Warren • The Brass Project
(actually, it's difficult to believe it's 92 instead of 72, given the line-up)
John Surman: soprano and baritone saxophones, alto and bass clarinets, piano
Henry Lowther, Steve Waterman, Stuart Brooks: trumpets Malcolm Griffiths, Chris Pyne: trombones
David Stewart, Richard Edwards: bass trombones
    Chris Laurence: double bass
    John Marshall: drums, percussion
    John Warren: conductor

    &

David Torn • Cloud About Mercury

David Torn: acoustic and electric guitars
Mark Isham: trumpet, piccolo trumpet, flugelhorn, synthesizer
Tony Levin: Chapman stick, synth bass
Bill Bruford: Simmons drums, synth drums, percussion

I'd probably think of this one, but it's the line-up that clinches it
    John Abercrombie • Night

    John Abercrombie: guitar
    Jan Hammer: keyboards
    Jack DeJohnette: drums
    Mike Brecker: tenor saxophone
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

They're not releasing all 50 at once. 25 more coming later this year.

    Barre Phillips - Mountainscapes
Eberhard Weber - The Following Morning
    Mick Goodrick - In Pas(s)ing
    George Adams - Sound Suggestions
David Torn - Cloud About Mercury (dated sounding, but still good)
Louis Sclavis Quintet - Rouge (avant-jazz)

It's nice they did these and they should be reasonably priced, but there are still about 75 albums not yet on CD and it seems to me the 50th anniversary might be a good time to get a few of the best of these finally released.

    My wish list (FWIW):
    Michael Naura - Vanessa (1053)
Jack DeJohnette - Untitled (1074) and New Rags (1103)
    Julian Priester - Polarization (1098)
Art Lande - Desert Marauders (1106)
Enrico Rava - Ah (1166) and Opening Night (1224)
    Arild Andersen - Lifelines (1188)
    Everyman Band - s/t (1234)
and the OM and Contact Trio albums on the JAPO label
    WANTED: Sig-worthy quote.
