You never know how much you don't know... In this case, somehow or other, I didn't know anything about Noah Howard. Anyway, I discovered this album this morning, & it's been pretty much on continuous play ever since. The version of Coltrane's Olé is a proper "choon", as my kids would say. And the encore is pure Pharaoh Sanders doing You've Got to Have Freedom. In fact, the whole gig immediately put me in mind of Sanders' album Live, recorded in 1981. (Which is a very good thing indeed, in my wee world)

Listened to Cecil Taylor's Akisakila for the first time yesterday...this is how I like it. Fast and furious.

Seems this album is difficult to come by (at least in complete form)...are there other albums in Taylor's discog that come from this time period that I should check out?
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.

I don't know the album you're referring to, but "Air Above Mountains" from 1977 gets pretty intense.

    Digging:

Mysticism Of Sound by nat birchall.
    released June 26, 2020.

“Mysticism of Sound” may have had Sun Ra as a starting point but this is all Nat. His voice is more serene and less overtly political than Ra’s and being without his own Arkestra has enabled him to produce a remarkably centred performance. It has an insular feel that builds on a solid sense of self and expands, as always, into the metaphysical, the divine, the cosmic. It oscillates; animated by deep rhythm, both played and unplayed; the kind of natural rhythm of which the great Afrofuturist himself once said “I know exactly the rhythm that must animate my music, and only this rhythm is valid."

Brazilian Dorian Dream by Manfredo Fest.
    releases July 17, 2020.

"Like a turbo-powered, intergalactic elevator ride, Brazilian Dorian Dream builds on the principle of the modal diatonic scales of the Dorian mode, with influences of Brazilian rhythms, North American jazz and funk, and music of the European baroque and romantic era."

Thanks for the Birchall notice... I hope the CD is soon on the way to the press machines.

    Manferdo Fest was good also.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

He is ridiculously productive. I took a quick listen, & this one didn't grab me. It's a solo outing, with all the instruments overdubbed.

It was when I was listening, the I checked out the link to the Noah Howard, which I posted the link to above. This is still getting a lot of spins here - a brilliant find, like joyous Pharaoh crossed with some New Orleans old time funeral jazz. Fantastic record!

This is the jazz dance remix of the third track on Brazillian Dorian Dream. It's probably not to many tastes hereabouts, but I remember this from the jazz dance clubs in the early 80s - along with Feeeeeze, Kid Creole, & Working Week especially.

If you read the comments below the video from the guys who were the dancers back in the day, it's like they're talking a whole different lingo!

I've been playing this album a lot lately: Tyshawn Sorey - Unflitered

    https://tyshawn-sorey.bandcamp.com/album/unfiltered

Its LONG! 2 hours with only 3 tunes. I feared it might be a little to 'free' for me. Its not; there is structure, development and melody. There are of course a lot of improvs too but its certainly not free-jazz.
    Fantastic band. Great album.

A good friend gave my as a present this record of a Greek jazz band I knew nothing about. It is absolutely astonishing. While delving on post bop waters, or drawing inspiration from New Orleans traditional jazz schemes, it's been done in a devotional, modern way. Essential listening in my opinion.

The band is called Το Pragma and you can listen to it here: https://trumpetfishrecords.bandcamp.com/track/ferdinand

This sounds very interesting. I’ve bookmarked it to follow up on later. Thanks for the heads up!
