Nobody plays solo guitar remotely like Ben and his harmonic concept is astounding; it comes as much from modern classical as jazz. His technique is pretty amazing too; lots of contrapuntal stuff going on. You can hear the whole thing on Bandcamp: https://benmonder.bandcamp.com/album/day-after-day
Sweet and tankx for the H.U.!
I’m a fan: I have not been able to listen to this new BM’s material ... yet!

Just the opening tune. It inspired me to put on the Hydra album. The title track is an amazingly beautiful piece.

Oops, you're right! I guess I should've checked that. I listened to the whole thing on Apple Music streaming service.

I have Hydra, Excavation and Oceana. They're all a bit of a challenging listen but when I'm in the right frame of mind they really hit the spot!

Saw the 10th anniv of the Gondwanna Records in Berussels last Saturday

Matthew Halsall and the Gondwana Orchchestra were fantastic - they played the entirety of the WtWWO album
Portico Quartet was a good surprise (and used the house's light show to great effect), except for the encore, which was way too techno to my tastes, but theu were doing advertisement, because two of them were DJ'ing later on in the night at the club. Their set was a major improvemůent compared to when I saw them about one year ago.
Polish pianist Hanja Rani did a good set did nothing out of the ordinary
bassist Phil France (from Cinematic Orchestra) did a second-rate Tangerine Dream set on the opening slot
We didn't hang around for the Flemish formation of STUFF, because of other engagements, but we had no idea what to expect from them, as they can suck or be awesome from one project to the next.

The rest of the agenda was techno or electro-pop and we exited the premises early (those engagements mentioned above)
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

    - SAMO SALAMON QUARTET: Ornethology (2003) -

"Much like his contemporaries Kurt Rosenwinkel and Ben Monder, Salamon is forging ahead with a new standard of jazz guitar that is accessible and beyond established categorizations." (John Barron, Jazz Word 2011)

    Agree!

The usual LPs are cited, but I submit Sun Ra's Jazz In Silhouette belongs on that list.

Judging by this cut I can't say Salamon does much for me, but the alto player is hip.

    Hello mogrooves!
Here is the complete album in case you want to hear it and have a better idea about it:

    One review quotes:
    "Slovene answer to John Scofield…"
(LJUBLJANA JAZZ FESTIVAL, June 2003, Slovenia)

Uhm, at this moment, I can´t say that about him because I've only listened to 2 albums of his vast discography, however, I hear some similarities with Mr. Scofield as I enjoy his playing and writing; this is his first record I think.

ps: his quartet is a great one and Achille Succi is hip, agree!.

This seems like a mix of jazz and soul, but I like the groove.

Terrible news - wonder if Steve Howe knows about this - he has often cited Kenny as a major influence.

Members at the Hoffman forum are raising questions about the legitimacy of this Gofundme story so hold off on contributing until there is confirmation. I noticed that pianist Ahmad Jamal and producer Don Was made donations, so hopefully it is legit.

    NP:

Bernardo Monk Orquesta - Atípico. (2018)

Can't find an audio … sorry!.

Rainy night here in Costa Rica and in the mood for some mix of tango and jazz:

"In his sixth album, the composer and saxophonist elaborates a musical fiction with Buenos Aires as a stage. With a repertoire that includes eleven original compositions, Bernardo Monk reaffirms his search, which combines tradition and innovation in tango with an orchestra of twelve outstanding musicians of the current scene.
Atípico is the reflection of the universe of own and singular codes present in the music of Monk."

    From YT: (2014)

    Regards!.

Has anyone heard Chris Potter's new record, Circuits? I've only been through a couple times so far, but I think it's very good. I've never been disappointed by this guy. Looking forward to getting better acquainted with it over the coming weeks.
