In the "post photos of your system" thread on Hoffman, one of the members shot a video of his system. This was playing. Anyone have any context to add to this before I go down some rabbit hole after this?

Agree and *one of the most talked-about names in contemporary jazz".

"Live at the Village Vanguard" is a double album of new, original compositions AFAIK in which Akinmusire brought his quartet.

    Band:
Ambrose Akinmusire – producer, trumpet, composer
    Harish Raghavan – bass
    Justin Brown – drums
    Sam Harris – piano

    Great music/effort IMO!

I also enjoy a lot and have from Ambrose:
    - When the Heart Emerges Glistening (2011)
    - The Imagined Savior is Far Easier to Paint (2014)

    Plus:

    - Prelude... to Cora. (This one is waiting for the 1st spin!!) (2008)

    Pura Vida!

Walt (and everyone)--re Komeda, I saw Namyslowski and his band in the mid 80's--they came to my school. Played to an audience of about 10. Great stuff.

BTW, speaking of "history," I have been spending time with the latest "Miles Bootleg" release--the Last Coltrane Tour box. Coltrane is my favorite musician ever, but this documents how he was heading in a far different direction than Miles at this time.....it's almost painful at times, sounding like he's trying to get out of a cage. Personally, the second Quintet is my favorite Miles period, and my favorite band ever (well, maybe tied with Weather Report) because they were experimenting with group improvisation and dialogue, as well as with forms and stretching time, etc. and the results are almost always incredible. During the Coltrane period with Miles, especially near the end, it sounds more like your traditional "soloist" against rhythm section approach, mostly, and Miles and John are a huge study in contrasts. The Classic Coltrane Quartet is huge with me, but it's pretty obvious why it needed to happen, listening to this document.
"And this is the chorus.....or perhaps it's a bridge...."

Cool! I have that Winobranie album from '73 on CD. One of the best sounding Polish jazz releases I've ever heard.

Looyd has always been in my top 10 jazzmen, but in terms of consistency in his discography (my liking his successive albums) , he's probably closer to my top 3
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

    Hello Trane!.
I need to explore more his work/music, specially his ECM´s period.

    Any suggestions?.

    First time here with:
    - Edward Simon: venezuelan pianist and composer. -

"Simon is considered one of the strongest pianists on the jazz scene, part of a new generation of "multilingual" musicians who have grown up studying classical, jazz and Latin-American music and who has garnered a unique voice both as composer and instrumentalist. Edward is inventing a language that transcends any rigid genre."
    https://www.edwardsimon.com/.

    Agree!.

Now I´m playing his latest “Sorrows and Triumphs" (2018):
    - Sweet -

"Sorrows and Triumphs, my newest album featuring Afinidad and Imani WInds"
“Simultaneously complex, deeply satisfying and listenable.”
    -Monarch Magazine
“a sleek expression of modernist chamber-jazz writing”
    -Nate Chinen.

    Agree 100%.

Wow! Thanks for bringing Edward Simon to attention here - someone of whom I knew nothing before checking out the link above. I liked what I heard, perhaps not immediately for the new record, but enough to search a bit further backwards... And I've picked up both Venezuelan Suite & Latin American Songbook - both of which I have been hugely impressed by. I think that this will be music that will really reward repeated listenings - complex arrangements, subtle exchanges between the jazz canon & those of various Latin American musical styles, especially Venezuelan music which is also relatively new to me, & I'm guessing rarely, if ever, a direct influence in jazz.

Love Edward Simon...discovered him last year after reading something Patitucci said.

BTW, the new Wayne Shorter release looks like it's gonna be very cool. Auto-Buy.
