Next, in the video, the original trio that recorded the album: it's fine, but I think it (the trio) stands out more and better with Alan Hampton and Ted Poor ... of course IMO!

I have a box of the Brad Mehldau Trio, The Art of the Trio. I've been working through the albums but somehow missed a disc entitled Volume 3: Songs. Holy She-ite, this stuff is fantastic.

Nels Cline has put another band together, with guitarist Julian Lage, Tom Rainey on drums, and Scott Colley on bass. Album out April 13.

Yes!!!

Being a huge fan of jazz from Japan, I bought a copy from Laser's Edge a week or so ago, and was floored by how good it is. So much so that I ordered another copy to give to a friend who is really into jazz but might not be as versed in J-jazz.

I think Laser's Edge and Wayside both have it in stock on CD if anyone's interested.

Such great stuff. Glad you're enjoying it!

I just ordered a copy, too. Don't know which version you went for, I chose the CD(s): two discs chock-full of jazzy goodness (if the sample track is anything to go by) for only a tenner. Yes please!

I just bought my first Charlie Parker compilation, a two disc set. Please don't tell me how deep of a rabbit hole I'm about to go down. The Miles Davis rabbit hole is deep enough to give me tremors.

So glad to hear you’re enjoying that Japanese jazz compilation, man. And that you’re having a good time exploring more jazz from Japan. Welcome aboard — now, down the rabbit hole you go!

And yes, Hiroshi Suzuki’s album Cat is so good. My favorite tune is “Walk Tall”, but that whole disc is quite nice. Glad you’re enjoying that one too!

Have you heard Day Break by Naoya Matsuoka & His All-Stars? I really like that one too. Matsuoka-san was a fine piano and keyboard player. Such a shame he passed away a few years ago. I got a 5 disc “best of” box set of his solo music and it has some really nice stuff on it. His album Majestic is really good, but it’s heavily 80s in sound so some might be put off by it. It’s one of my favorites though. I’ve bought it three times: twice on CD and once on vinyl.

You’ve got to come on man, and take a piece of Mr. Parker’s band.

I haven’t explored Charlie Parker’s catalog yet. I’m still going through Miles Davis, with no end in sight...

Let us know what you think once you’ve given it a listen or two, if you don’t mind. I’ve no idea where to start.
