Sounds quite a bit better than the unauthorized cd-r i've had of Crisis for the last fifteen years or so.Better stereo separation, especially of the bass.Crisis was not a great sounding record to begin with.My guess is this re-issue wasn't remixed, but that's just my guess. The music is masterful,Crisis belongs in the collection of every/any Ornette Coleman fan and every modern jazz appreciator, imo.Ornette At 12 isn't as strong or memorable a live date as Crisis, imo,but still, it's live Ornette from 1968 and that's still reason to celebrate.

Crisis was the first Ornette album I heard and it completely stopped me in my tracks. I had never heard anything remotely like that - every instrument was playing differently to what I had come to expect. And the bass playing - Haden was truly a monster with a tone like no other.

Listening to Jimmy Smith's Organ Grinder Swing with Kenny Burrell on guitar and Grady Tate on drums.

I need to delve deeper into the Organ Trio stuff. Any recommendations? (I'm sure there is plenty of it buried
in the 77 pages of this thread, but searching it out is a daunting task).

Don Patterson: Boppin' & Burnin'. Not a trio date but a killer, with Pat Martino (before he went soft).

Great. Another record company that I never heard of before that I apparently need to explore. Hopefully I'll just forget.

It's raining right now so I'm spinning this:

I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

Picked this up Saturday from my B&M record shop for 9.00

Nothing that wouldn't make The Epic's fourth disc, although it's only half as long.

    Or....

    Nothing new under the sun.

    But I like it
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

I came across this list of "noteworthy" hard bop performances. I have only two of these - Blue Train and Somethin' Else. Any ideas on the list or further recommendations?

^^^^^ I have all but the Nat Adderley, but otherwise it's really pick & choose; whatever your choices, make the Rollins one of them (and the Mobley is a killer). The absence of Lee Morgan and Clifford Brown/Max Roach is inexcusable.
