well, it's not that I dislike it (far from it)....

But it doesn't have any of the excitement of the GGP trio.

so, Trane, you're saying it has none of the excitement of the GGP trio?

Flash Pig / Remain Still (2014)
Anyone familiar with this french quartet?.

    "Winner european jazz competition 2015"

"After meeting in 2009 at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM), the twin brothers Maxime Sanchez (pianist) and Adrien Sanchez (saxophonist) along with the drummer Gautier Garrigue and Florent Nisse (bass) make “Flash Pig”.
The quartet decided to play especially Maxime compositions and works from the start on to open music without compromise, in which all members of the band will find freedom. But it is also indebted to the American free jazz scene of the 70, contemporary European and the New York jazz scene.
In 2014, their first by the French press well received album appeared: "Still Remain". The same year the band starts an artistic residency at the jazz club "Les Disquaires" in Paris."

A favorite of mine from the excellent Cryptogramophone label. Violinist Jenny Scheinman has a beautiful sound. She's modern and earthy/folky at the same time. I caught her on tour with Bruce Cockburn about 4-5 years ago.

Well, GoGo Penguin lived up to that promise and then some at their Philly stop last night. It was a cracker. If any of you get a chance to make it to this tour, I'd suggest not passing it up. (Especially in the US--they seemed hopeful about coming back sometime, but no telling how likely that is. I saw maybe 40 people on the floor.)

John Surman's album "Morning Glory" is being reissued on cd.It was reissued by FMR records in the 90's but ,apparently, that was not an authorized reissue. This one is(so i'm informed).

It's coming out on the British Fledgling label.

I'm seeing them in Liège in a couple of weeks (May 14th) and in the same festival , I'll be seeing Rêve d'Elephant (local excellent jazz formation) just before

I listened to some of it on YouTube. I'm not usually into repetitive, minimilistic music, but their stuff kinda grabbed me
    and kept me interested.
