I'm very satisfied with the last half dozen or so ECM titles I've picked up.

    Sam Rivers-Contrasts
    Steve Kuhn-Trance
Kenny Wheeler-Widow In The Window; Music For Large And Small Ensembles
    Ralph Towner/John Abercrombie-Five Years Later
    Abercrombie/Johnson/Erskine-November
    Paul Motian-Tribute

These two could easily make my list.

Over the last ten years or so i've probably bought more ECM New Series(classical and early music) cds than the label's "regular" offerings.

The last three Rivers albums I picked up are superb! The other two are the live albums Celebration, and Reunion Concert in New York.

    Sorry, Mo.

Just listened to this album the other day. I find Nicole's work a little hit or miss, but this was quite good. Taborn and Taylor tear it up.

Hey, I was at that concert! This group (Sonic Projections) has two CDs, of which the second in particular is quite excellent. The new "Artifacts" CD - a collection of AACM covers by Mitchell, Tomeka Reid, and Mike Reed - is very good too.

On the straight-ahead tip, I see that that both the Xanadu and Beehive catalogs are being re-issued. Good stuff.

That Black Host: Life in the Sugar Candle Mines is pretty killer.

The guy below always has a mixed bag of music he picks up, everything from jazz to classical to rock, etc.

Nate Wooley plays the music of Wynton Marsalis.

I was(am) intrigued by this.I know a bit about Nate Wooley but have no albums by him.He says he truly dug many of Wynton's early compositions for small jazz ensemble and wanted to explore this repertoire in his own group. The samples sound interesting and i ordered the cd.Clean Feed releases some hip stuff.I include a link to the Clean Feed page for this cd.

Allen Toussaint has died. Here's one to play him out.

I bought a copy of Our Thing a few months back, but haven't really given it a good listen. Will get to it this weekend.

Joe Henderson has quite a catalog. He's one of those artists in which I enjoy his more straight ahead Blue Note work as well as his experimental and jazz-fusion work from the 70s.

I started out with the Blue Notes 30 years ago, but never picked up our thing. Mostly I listen to the Milestone stuff. The live albums, Multiple, and Tetragon. And I like Power To The People a lot too.

That's a good one (and I posted a couple tracks from it somewhere way back in this thread)! I saw him around the time it was a new release; he had a young, pre-RTF Stanley Clark and Lenny White with him.

How did you get into the clubs at that age, Ernie? I was born 10 years too late. I missed all the good shit.

I would've been a junior or senior in high school around that time. They used to have all ages shows at The Jazz Showcase in Chicago. I was still a jazz newbie, but when I fell, I fell hard. Still, I was born a little too late; I missed seeing Trane and Wes Montgomery.

Two new albums from Ibrahim Maalouf both on the label Impulse!

The first (called Kalthoum) is a (instrumental) tribute to Egyptian legendary singer Oum Kalthoum
