Sad news. Trumpet/flugelhorn player Clark Terry died.Terry (1920-2015) was the epitome of swing/bebop trumpet craft. He played with most of the hip big bands..Basie, Ellington,Quincy Jones.

I heard him live a few times over the years.Always blew with humor and integrity.A true 'player'.

    RIP Clark Terry.

I heard about that yesterday. He was a fine player and one of jazz's great ambassadors. By all accounts a great human being.

I played a gig with Terry back in the 80s. A real gentleman who played the "pretty notes."

Do not miss out on the recent archive release from Charles Lloyd Quartet, assembling two New York gigs recorded in 1965. The sound quality is really good, the lineup includes Ron Carter on bass, Gábor Szabó on guitar and Pete La Roca on drums and the music is already full of the late 60s eclectic vibe.

I am just getting through some 2014 jazz titles myself. I thought this offering from Clean Feed was quite good. Any fans of Matt Bauder?

I played with this trumpet player (Brad Goode) and pianist (Jodie Christian) once a week for a year circa '91. The tenor saxophonist, Von Freeman used to sit in sometimes. DeJohnette, well, we only played together in my dreams! It was Brad's band and I think he added me because he wanted to play some of his fusion stuff, but we ended up just playing jazz standards most of the time. After a year, I had the dubious distinction of being one of the only guitar players in the world to be replaced by a trombone player. But I suppose there's some universal justice in that.

Jodie was an amazing player and I learned so much from standing next to him! He was one of the founders of the AACM, but was usually heard playing more traditional jazz. He passed away three years ago. I just learned of this and other videos of him from a friend and fellow musician.

Yes. He's in the current line-up of Rob Mazurek's Exploding Star Orchestra as well, so I've had a chance to *really* hear him.

Ignore it? That brunette in white is stunning!

Speaking of hot french brunettes and jazz, there's the "Madison scene" from Bande ŕ Part. Soundtrack by Michel Legrand.
