“Remember, if it doesn't say "Cuneiform," it's not prog!” - THE Jed Levin
Any time any one speaks to me about any musical project, the one absolute given is "it will not make big money". [tip of the hat to HK]
"Death to false 'support the scene' prog!"
please add 'imo' wherever you like, to avoid offending those easily offended.
I wasn't sure if he was jazz (I think that's a good sign)

Gordon Haskell - "You've got to keep the groove in your head and play a load of bollocks instead"
I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.
Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.
I'm only here to reglaze my bathtub.
I'll probably pick up the Rob M, Dylan Ryan (I like the previous one), Anthony Pirog & the cellar and point.
the cellar and point are supporting Birdsong Of The Mesazoic in Boston in October so I'm looking forward to seeing them there.

Man, I'm digging that. But you know I wouldn't bez a callin' that jazz, that for me iz like some kind of Asian-avantgarde-groove, man
But az you all knowz ...iz that I don't knowz where jazz starts & endz, seems like jazz is as amorphous and az indefinable az prog...ya digz?

T.K.Ramamoorthy-Fabulous Notes And Beats of Indian Carnatic Jazz(1969)
Jazz musicians had been using Indian musical elements before this recording, but this was one of the first(if not the first) record in which accomplished Indian musicians adopted jazz elements. These musicians were well known in Indian film music and were trained in the strict discipline of the traditional Carnatic system. These are Carnatic ragas.
Interesting stuff.

I've been digging a lot of Jane Ira Bloom over the past few days....Soprano Sax gets a bad rap, you know? Jane, and Steve Lacy......seriously.
I need to dig into my Steve Lacy Soul Note set. There's a great trio album on there called the Window. Also, the Zurich Live 1983 on Hatology is one of the most intense performances I've heard from his long running band w/ Steve Potts. I've only heard one Ira Bloom album called Art & Aviation. I like her stuff.
I recall seeing Steve Lacy Quartet with Steve Potts,Ron Miller-bass and Oliver Johnson-drums at Ali's Alley, NYC circa 1979 or 1980.It was the only time i saw Steve Potts with Lacy. They were so contrasting,as stylists.Lacy..dry and cerebral..Potts..much more expressive and volatile.
Good times.

absolutely wild album:

Was looking for Steve F.'s John Surman promo (which I found), but in the meantime I tripped over this great set.

Kenny Wheeler was always such a wonderful player, with a rich lyrical sound.Sad to realize that he's now in poor health and hasn't played in a while.A benefit was held for him in London recently.
Be well, Kenny Wheeler.
Nice clip.Thanks for posting it.

Gulda is amazing !
Here is another pianoplayer that went from classical music to jazz (Bora Rokovic):
For sure.He has(had) an immense range, and an unsurpassed ability to ......straddle a variety of playing environments.
He played jazz-rock with Mike Gibbs' orchestra, big band jazz with Maynard Ferguson, free improvisation with Spontaneous Music Ensemble, Tony Oxley(The Baptised Traveller is a superb cd).
My entry to Kenny Wheeler's work was his trumpet/flugelhorn with the mid 70's Anthony Braxton ensembles, on Arista.I'll spin those sides from the Mosaic Arista box today.
