So AAJ's forums are down again for the last few days. It's made me itchy to seek out new discussion forums for jazz. I went back to Jazz Corner and realized they took that forum down a year ago. I never quite warmed to Organissimo, but may give it another chance. There was an interesting free jazz one I would go to here and there, and can't seem to find it. Maybe it's gone as well. I know Jazz Music Archives is around, but not much activity.
Any other good discussion forums I'm missing?
WANTED: Sig-worthy quote.
Perhaps you were referring to Free Jazz Collective.Just reviews,no discussion.I peruse the offerings every couple of days, see what's new in that area.I attach a link for Free Jazz Collective.
I like Organissimo.I scope it just about every day.

Steve Hoffman Forums has a lively jazz thread.Folks mostly post records they dig but there is some commentary and back and forth posting of opinions.

Yeah, JMA's forum doesn't seem to take off... Of course, some 90% of the members are PA members
though there are a few dudes knowledgeable on jazz on the RYM forums, it's certainly not satisfying... There is that long thread (around 200 pages)about 'Is there more to jazz than KoB and ALS', but that's about it

Thanks, Walt. It was not the blog, but a pretty hardcore free-jazz discussion forum (that didn't get a great deal of traffic).
On another note, I did some Googlin' and found this:
http://www.jazztalk.net/
It appears to be the Jazz Corner Speakeasy forum reincarnated after Jazz Corner shut it down. Steve Lake from ECM is on it still occasionally answering questions.

Drove home late last night, 200+ miles. The NPR station out here on the prairie started a show called Jazz After Hours a third of the way through. At first I was bored because they started with vibes and man, listening to vibes bores the bejesus out of me but then they started playing all kinds of bop and postbop stuff I'd never heard of. My wife kept dozing off and when she was awake she'd make jerking off motions at the radio (too many notes) but now I'm looking at their playlist online trying to remember what I liked and need to research further.
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart
I check out the Hoffman forum often but conversations there tend to veer into discussions on the recording quality. I get that it's the nature of that forum but I wish there were more discussion of the music. I still haven't found a wide-ranging rock music forum that has a membership as knowledgeable as this one.

This isn't going to help you much, because it's in French

There are an amazing amount of dudes that know a lot about many areas, not just the 60 and 70's... And the woman owner Béatrice is really well-versed as well (she's very much into folk)
other than that, ProgArchives also have their share of knowledge

I like different types of jazz at different times, but my favorite artists are generally the Flat Earth Society, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, mount fuji doomjazz corporation, & the Lounge Lizards.
Mark Morganelli’s Jazz Forum in NYC was a regular hang in the late 70s/80s. He's presenting a 35th Anniversary concert as part of the Blue Note Jazz festival. For anyone visiting the city this Friday (28th), fyi:

http://news.allaboutjazz.com/john-co...p#.U-gx-_lP6T8Until now, the proceedings from the 1966 concert were available only in fragmentary form and with inferior sound. On Offering, Resonance achieves the highest possible audio quality, using direct transfers of original master reels from a location recording by Temple’s WRTI-FM, remastered at 96kHz/24 bit, that were tracked down by Coltrane scholar Yasuhiro Fujioka. In addition, the album is presented in a deluxe format 2-CD digi- pak as well as a gatefold 2-LP edition.
I posted this in "New Releases" but this thread seems to be a good place to reiterate it.
Blue Note/Impulse will release a cd of live duets by Charlie Haden and guitarist Jim Hall on Sep.30.More info in the attached link.

Given the line-up, i'll take this with a cautionary side... I'll probably wait until my library systen's got it.

RIP Idris Muhammad, a very hip drummer. First heard him on Pharoah Sanders's Jewels Of Thought back when.

i see there are many youtube videos for this ethnic jazz (and more) project (called 'telvin') Live, and i saw 4-5, and this was the most interesting one and interestingly there isn't much ethnic to this particular one:
