Just beat the living crap out of myself with yard work - now I'm sitting back with my laptop and lemonade. I have a string of Esbjörn Svensson Trio playing through the mancave stereo. Aaaaaaaaah.

Well, it should. It's got 66.7% of EST in it.
So far they have one album and another on its way in September.

"Pace" is the single from Nubya Garcia's new lp Source, which is due out in a month or so.

She is one of the real stars of the current London scene, & if the rest of the album lives up to the promise of this single, then it will be one of the records of the year.

I've been catching up on Hiromi this week. Four albums: solo piano (Place To Be, Spectrum); Hiromi Trio Project (Spark); Hiromi's Sonimcbloom (Beyond Standard). Best jazz pianist working these days, as far as I'm aware.
I think the subtext is rapidly becoming text.

It's always great when a new recording from the Maria Schneider Orchestra drops, and this one stands right up there with her best, IMO. Recording was completed pre-Covid in November 2019, and the band is comprised mostly of long-timers for whom Schneider has grown very adept at writing. The playing and writing are uniformly outstanding, and the packaging - for those still into that kind of thing - is spectacular. Highly recommended.

Very nice article about the great London saxophonist Nubya Garcia in the NY Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/17/a...ia-source.html

Her new album, Source, is released on Friday: https://nubyagarcia.bandcamp.com/album/source.

Here she is performing the album's opening track, "Pace", with Joe Armon-Jones for the BBC's "Glastonbury Experience" a couple of months back:

This is one I'm really excited about!
