New Video for the song Madness

My friend and musicial collaborator Marvin Cripps emailed me the other day and told me while out on his daily walk he'd been listening to a song of mine called Madness.
He asked if it would be alright if he made a video for it, and of course I was excited and said sure, I'd love it.

Originally written waaay back in 1984, recorded using 2 Sanyo 2 track cassette decks with a Radio Shack 4 channel mixer that I think I paid $39 for. lol
Enter 2013 and the world wasn't much different, and I was surprised how much I had written of the times was still pretty relevant.
So I decided to re-record it with updated lyrics and better technology and called it Madness 2013.
Fast Forward to 2020 and the human race doesn't look like it's learned a damn thing.
The video features the Madness 2013 version.

Thanks to Marvin Cripps for this video and for his creative vision and for reminding us the world is still Fugazi.

    I hope you enjoy it!

I did the 4-Track cassette thing in the 80s, with one of those tracks used as a sync track for the MIDI sequencer.

My first real 4 track recording was on a Tascam Porta One...man I loved that thing. I used it on my song Legends along with a couple of Casio's and a CZ-101 digital synthesizer I bought from a J C Penny Catalog. lol
But the early recordings I would record something live on 1 Sanyo 2 track through the mixer and record something live while it was recording the 1st recording into Sanyo deck #2..
I could get about 4 bounces until it really sounded degraded. I still have the original album, but I transferred it from the Master Cassette tape to my DAW and saved it as digital.
But it's amazing what people can do when that's all you've got.

I've seen some videos of Bob Marley recording on a 4 track Tascam reel to reel and the sound he created is awesome.

I think part of the reason music recorded is often not as soulful as it was with limited technology. I read about these producers who have a couple hundred tracks and mixers with unlimited channels, and they say "oh we put a bell sound here" and a "fart" lowered in pitch here on this track, and it's like wth?

Nice!! I really dig the driving drum groove and the slightly percussive angle on the vocal lines...has a nice early 80's PG sort of vibe to it

Another great one Richard! Keep 'em coming
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Thanks John, I appreciate your comments. The driving drum groove was my early introduction to using Addictive Drums, and the opening synth is my Moog Voyager.
There's a lot of the Korg King Korg in there, which sadly I no longer have, but is a very underated synth in my opinion.

Got a couple more up my sleeves for future plays around here.
I turned 73 last July and I'm enjoying just having fun wit it all!

    thanks for listening...uh...watching.

    Wow Kim, thanks for commenting.
I appreciate your body of work very much. You are definitely an original(in a good way), and I love that. Pushing the boundaries of music and challenging the listener.
Me, I'm just your basic pop rock kind of guy who writes/records what comes out of my head and heart, but I think all of us here do that, and throw away any intention of writing just to be popular.
I have the utmost respect for my fellow musicians here who continually spend hours, days, weeks and often months on writing/recording/mixing/mastering their music.
It's a labor of love, and even if something isn't in my particular genre that I prefer, I appreciate the love for art and hardwork each musician does to achieve the final song.

I listened to Awaken, and I really like the funk in this piece. I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, and this song reminds me a bit of that Detroit Funk we all love.
I watched the Virtual Visuals 2007 show on YouTube, this is a lot of fun.
I love the guy in red walking, it adds a really cool vibe, as I was concentrating on the drum beat during some of the uh, progressive jazz parts.
This is a great video and it's wonderful you have audio of your last performance together. The video with it is very well done.

Thank you again for stopping by and taking the time to comment Kim, I really appreciate it.
oh, and don't worry about slipping in to senility at 66(you're still a young un). I'm 73 and uh..um, what were we discussing? lol
