Whenever I hear that line the image in my mind has always been of Jon playing pinball.

Bill Bruford said once that there was a very brief moment where ABWH was gonna actually mean "something artistically" and it wasn't going to be commercial concerns or whatever, then noted "That window slammed shut pretty quickly".

In this case I believe not only the band may have big egos, but the fans who listen to them too. In this case it sounds a bit like elitism which I hate. Everything is a matter of taste and nobody's taste is better or worse. Let's all enjoy things we want to without worrying about others.

O/T but re Blackmore there's a short but interesting interview with Ian Gillan in the Guardian today. He only touches on previous fallings-out with Blackmore to say "we were both arseholes". He also said communication is now friendly but limited because Blackmore will not have any electronics in his house - no computer, no phone. So if you want to get in touch with him you have to write a letter (or, as Gillan does, swap notes via a mutual contact). In some ways I kind of envy him that choice, and having the ability to make it - though the truth is without an Internet connection I'd probably go nuts in short order.

Even more O/T, Gillan comes across as a nice, quite modest chap.

Oh, I don't think "fans with big egos" is limited to just Yes. that happens with a lot of bands. You ever try telling a Rush fan that Neil Peart might not be the greatest drummer ever?

Or try telling a Genesis fan that Phil Collins ruined everything...?

Amateur hour. Try telling anybody, and I mean anybody, the Beatles are overrated!

That's because the Beatles are not overrated.

Don't confuse "overrated" with "other people like something I don't like".

Ah, so that applies to Rush and Neil Peart, too (etc.). Check.

I thought the question with Rush was whether or not Neil Peart was the greatest drummer ever. That's not quite the same as saying he's overrated.

FWIW, I don't think Peart was the greatest drummer ever, nor that he was overrated. He was insanely talented, and there's not many in his league IMO. But I also don't think the Beatles were the best band ever, even though they were trailblazers.
