    RIP
I enjoyed watching his variety shows as a kid.
He had a great shtick of asking audience members for a song title and then making up a song on the spot.

I remember the show, but completely forgot about that part.

Mac Davis was a big part of Americana back then. A very popular and talented man loved by men and women alike. I also remember him later, from the movie North Dallas Forty with Nick Nolte. Said in an interview that he had to stand on some boards in the locker room scenes to appear taller, to match up with the other actors.

You will never see the old style talkshows and variety shows again. I caught something the other day on youtube where Mike Douglas was doing an interview and I forgot how good and funny he was; and how life was simpler back then.

RIP. Never really thought of Mac Davis as a country musician. He's more a comedian and actor. I guess I could search YT for some of his early recordings. But he's one of those bumpkins that I mention along Ray Stevens, Mel Tillis, and a few other country comics.
