Thread: THE WORST MUSIC VIDEO EVER MADE? (post only one)

  1. #76
Apparently, Twisted Sister are so embarrassed by their career-ending video that they've now blocked all four YouTube uploads of "Leader of the Pack." To think, some of those uploads had been on YT since the late 2000s. Dee must really be worried about people discovering that video, knowing that it would likely oust "Rock Me Tonight" as the most ridiculed video ever. Anyway, here's the video that turned Twisted Sister into a verboten topic overnight:

Amazing to realise this came out in 1989 and the band was actually formed in 1988, when the style had already been irrelevant for a good four years...though I suppose it ill becomes a prog fan to sneer at anyone for being behind the times.

Don't know what the fuss is about, the video's quite funny and surely nobody took Twisted Sister seriously?

I'm sure one or two people were genuinely concerned about Mark Metcalf's well-being....

You know, I never offered my worst video. There's so many. But I came across this recently, and holy cow, it looks like it was done by a fifth-grade aspiring filmmaker. See! If you shut off the camera and move the object away, it looks like it disappeared! See! Alan Parsons boop the snoot of a dog skull! See! Someone's clever printout of the album title on lined computer paper! But you can tell by the beginning it had few "Rock F*cks" to give anyway...

I try not to think about Getcha Back, or anything else off that dreadful record. But yeah, you make a reasonable point, maybe someone was trying to not put too much of a spotlight that these aging bands were...aging. Makes me think of the talk of the reason why Herbie Hancock is only seen on a video monitor in the Rockit video (supposedly, though, it was more a matter of Herbie ethnicity, not his age). See also the Deep Purple videos where they either not shown on screen, or just a bit. Speaking of which:

Honestly, that one looks like Central Casting threw up all over the video!

Actually I quite enjoyed that ... it was deliciously cheezy.

The "outrageous filth" note is a great in-joke, referring to the senate "porn rock" hearings where Dee Snyder testified.

Okay, so this may not be the 'worst ever', but it's definitely closer to that end of the spectrum than the other. My favourite thing about obvious lip-synch videos is the way the singers often showed no strain when screaming or hitting high notes. Bonus points too for the way they somehow manage to 'play' the song fading out at the end.

There are so many strong contenders, especially from the 80s, that I was asking myself if I could name a really good music video. I'm sure I've seen some of them that featured a "less is more" or tasty approach that really did the song justice or even enhanced it, but alas it's the bad ones that tend to stay in my memory.

BTW, Bill Bruford looks really happy with that make-up. Amazing picture.

Actually, I don't think it is that bad; so they wore make up and ran around in the first half. If you had made it to the end you would have seen and heard them playing the song on their respective instruments. Good cut from that album, by the way, and I would rate the video as curious, but okay as it goes. Certainly not in the "worst" video category like most of the ones posted above.

A minute is about what you can stand, but they sure seem happy doing what they're doing...
