Never got into Tower of Power. Sounds like he was really good. I'll have to see if I can find anything online and watch him. Sorry to hear this. RIP Rocco

I've spent many hours studying his bass lines. Unique and highly influential player. RIP.

Yes, very, very sad. He was in hospice, and had a kidney transplant in 2014. Amazing bass player, so damned funky without slapping!

Rocco was a big one for me as a bassist as well. I never did develop a convincing slap technique and Rocco showed me that you didn't have to do that to be funky as hell. And every time I hear Jaco or Jeff Berlin bring the funk finger-style I can't help but think of the driving 16th-note groove of 'What Is Hip?'. His deep connection with David Garibaldi was something to behold. Many thanks for all the funky grooves. RIP

I saw TOP a few times, twice in the late 70s, once in 2003. The first couple shows I attended I know Rocco was out of the band by then and probably Garibaldi too. The last show in 2003 both were back in the band. That rhythm section was tight as hell.

Rocco's Bass Day '98 performance is gold. His band (Dave Garibaldi, too) plays a bunch of ToP stuff sans vocals.
