That's a good bunch there. I have some Farrell, Dolphy, and Kirk, but should look more into them.

I have Tim Weisberg's Hurtwood Edge, and have been meaning to play it. Pretty good for light jazz.

I was listening to the jazz channel on TV and they played some Kirk Whalum that was pretty good too. They also played a cut off one of David Muse's albums, who used to play in Firefall, that sounded interesting. Good to know he's still playing.

Plus the live version of "It Better End Soon", any performance but especially the one on the recent box.

Indeed...a fantastic player!!! I saw Focus a few years ago and Thijs was suffering from partial face paralysis and was unable to play the flute. Imagine that!!! Fortunately he no longer suffers and can play just fine.

Bought this album back in the 70's. I always like the flute break about 2/3 the way into the song.

One usually doesn't hear the flute in a country song, but this fits in quite nicely...

I can't believe Jim Lockhart of Horslips hasn't been mentioned.

...and neither is Jana Arns from Belgian RIO band, Aranis.

After all, she did study classical flute at Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, the best conservatory in Belgium.

Oh, and let me not forget, James Newton (not James Newton Howard).

He tends to be on the avant-grade side of jazz, but he does do some more straight ahead.

And he does have his share of chops.

Of course, how could I forget Colour My World, a great song with his most well known solo.

I was going to mention MTB but I thought this was prog and jazz only. I’ve always loved the flute on Can’t You See.

Call it progressive country. And there you go.

Actually, there apparently is a genre called "progressive country", though what's supposed to be "progressive" about it, I'm not sure. Sounds like the same old crap they play "country" radio. Whatever it is, they apparently don't mean "progressive" the same way as we do when we talk about progressive rock.

The most progressive country I can think of is 16 horsepower but they don’t have any flute
