    Questions about Music Streaming Services

Just got a offer from Amazon, who apparently has a new HD streaming service that is a double the normal bit-rate. They are offering 90 days from, after-which its 11 bucks a month.

Does anybody here have any experience with this Amazon Music?

I'd like to know if it is possible to download a song (and maybe even burn it)? Or is it just streaming and then the feed is gone, like a normal radio station?

    Thanks
    S

(PS: I really no nothing about any of these music stream services, I do buy music from different places,,,)

There is no downloading for any streaming service, as 'streaming service' is commonly defined.

You are paying a monthly fee for the rights to listen to anything that they have in their service as often as you like. That's all. And if you don't pay the monthly fee, your 'listening rights' go away.

Keep in mind that a million play song for an artist generates about $1200 in revenue. So you are really not doing much to support the artists by subscribing. Most artists see absolutely nothing from Amazon. Just the big boys make very modest sums, while Amazon just gets bigger and richer and less Artist Friendly. This is not a sustainable model - at least for the musicians. But there will always be more popping up, so until that changes, enjoy unlimited listens for only 12 bucks a month. Its a great deal... for Amazon.

I buy, directly from the Artist whenever possible. Or from the label that is supporting them if you can.

The 'high bit rate' part does not do much unless you are using an external DAC to headphones or a stereo.
If you are using the PC sound system ( unless you have a really nice one ) it's not much better than MP3's.

A double the bit rate service is going to eat through phone data before you know what hits you.

Ama-Zone is the first A of the ugly GAFAs anyways

Not sure that Spotify is better (or retributing the artistes better), but at least it's not a GAFA.

But I don't stream much (well YT and Bandcamp are streaming) or dowload (at all) anyways

Amazon's promoted hi-res streaming program was initially greeted with great enthusiasm over at Hoffman but the audiophiles soon found that a.) it was a bitch to set up to get a true 24 bit, b.) even if you worked though all the hoops, it required constant monitoring to avoid switching back to standard low-def stream and c.) there are a ton of glitches that Amazon can't be bothered to fix. I think there are still many there that subscribe to Qobuz which is much less problematic and definitely hi-res.

To this day, computers are too stupid to know just because I haven't touched the keyboard or mouse in the last 5 minutes, they're still quite busy.
