    RIP Ennio Morricone

Wanted to post this earlier, when I heard it in the news, but exept for some Dutch sites, I couldn't find much about it. Some Russian site mentioned it and another site stated it was a hoax, but now I found some international sources.
Ennio Morricone has died aged 91.

Now I found several sites mentioning his death, so I just picked one.

Earlier there was one site mentioning the news of his dead was a hoax and I didn't really find any international site with a complete story.

It is sad news and perhaps I hoped it was just a hoax.

This is indeed sad to read. Terrible for it to happen on a broken leg.

RIP to one of the best.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.

    Vale, Maestro.

And thanks for all the great music. Thanks for completely changing the sound of films. Thanks for being, perhaps, the greatest contributor to rock and pop music who wasn't a rock or pop musician himself, and didn't even like rock or pop music. You had as good a run as any composer ever, and were active until the end. Farewell to a life well-lived.

Rest in peace to a master of wonderful music.

A very tragic way to bow out, but what a life in music and what a legacy. So many classics but a favourite is Once Upon A Time In The West, I’m playing that tonight in tribute. RIP.

Much more info the the main discussion page. Just about anything you want to know about Ennio Morricone on the extensive 33 pages of The Official Ennio Morricone Thread. The death of the maestro still has me mourning today. My sorrow today continues because of so many wonderful articles that I've read since yesterday. The masses really did "get it" about Ennio. Reading some detailed perspectives on just how important he was in the world of music and cinema is heart warming. And to see so many people on this forum alone who have embraced the genius that he was is also very cool. After all, if you love prog, it's easy to assume you would love Ennio Morricone, because he too was also a progressive artist in so many ways. Knowing that his musical legacy will be studied and admired well after all of us are gone from this world is in itself an acknowledgement of how lucky we have been to be alive in his time. It's kind of like saying how lucky the people were in Germany who sat in the audience to witness Beethoven conduct his ninth symphony for the first time. This is when the conductor was completely deaf and then when the performance was over, Beethoven facing his musicians was turned around to face a cheering standing ovation. I never made it to Europe to see EM perform, but reading about people that did made me make this comparison. Most were mesmerized. The legacy will last forever.
Day dawns dark...it now numbers infinity.
