Oiapok (Camembert follow up) - First Single-So Empty It Looks Real

    Hello everyone,

As some of you may allready know Camembert is over.

We are know Oiapok. The direction changes slightly.

We just released our first single yesterday. It's called So Empty It Looks Real.

I'm copying the press communiqué here :
    "
Between the earth and the stars, between ecological concerns and cosmic visions, Oiapok transcends the boundaries of progressive rock with future jazz sonorities.

Oiapok is a collective of eight musicians and was founded in Strasbourg in 2020. But beyond its apparent youth, the band enjoys a real musical maturity because it is composed of most members of Camembert (a tribute to the group Gong and its inventive spirit) founded by Pierre Warzyniak in 2004, bassist and composer.

Oiapok’s music draws its inspiration from progressive rock, 70’s funk, film soundtracks and Afro-Cuban rhythms. The group is shaking conventions with its non standard instrumentation (harp, xylophone-vibraphone, brass, bass, drums, guitar, vocals) and its various influences ranging from jazz-fusion to funk, from repetitive music to African and Brazilian music.

The future orchestral future jazz/progressive rock band takes you to the Amazon in the footsteps of Raymond Maufrais for its first digital single So Empty It Looks Real. A lush journey through a jungle of influences from Joni Mitchell to Jaga Jazzist, the track composed during the confinement lockdown evokes the loneliness of the explorer and his dismay into the unknown…

An emotional journey not to be missed for any reason.

The single is released on bandcamp, which i believe is a great platform for artists.

I would suggest you to listen to it!

    All the best

I like. Quite a different approach to Camembert, but very fresh.

Also, oddly, the second 2020 track I've come across on BC that is inspired by Raymond Maufrais. The other is part of Ghost Rhythms' wonderful Imaginary Mountains EP (https://ghostrhythms.bandcamp.com/al...nary-mountains) which everyone should hear.

So very strange to see "Oyapock" and "Maufrais" here as we work on our Imaginary Mountains album, which makres reference to those ones...
I think we should do some "Maufrais" gig together. We are in Paris, you are in Strasbourg : let's do something !
    I really like the music.

    Really?
It's a fantastic coincidence. I think we really could something like this.
I'm glad you like our music because ghost rythm really killed me even if i didn't notice it was connected to maufrais.
