    Keith Tippett RIP

Reading on Facebook (from Leonardo Pavkovic and Sid Smith among others) that pianist Keith Tippett has passed away. RIP.

This is very sad to read. While I didn't love everything Tippett did, when he hit it was a home run.

    A classic for sure. RIP
    No humor please, we're skittish.

Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.

R.I.P. I loved his work on Lizard in particular.

An absolute genius. Some of his music was a bit beyond my comprehension perhaps but when his music clicked with me it was like being hit by a Tsunami.

I'm a huge fan and will really miss him. Many great albums and projects have benefited from his inventive playing and ideas. Although for most people he is probably known only as the guy who played piano with King Crimson, or even for bringing Centipede to life, I like him best in his albums Frames, A Loose Kite..., From Granite to Wind, and Nine Dances..., and in his collaborations with Elton Dean (Ninesense, Cruel but Fair) and the expatriated South African musicians who formed part in The Blue Notes. His first two albums are also excellent. A true genius is gone. Rest in peace.

    What he said.

The stuff he did with a piano in Crimson, to me, compares with what Roger McGuinn did with a 12-string in the Byrds. Bright, crisp, jingle-jangle, short notes.

    Sad...
I love Dedicated to you, Frames, Ninesense, and of course his work with KC.
Was lucky enough to see him with the Dedication Orchestra, he was one of a kind.

    RIP Keith Tippett

Keith Tippett who appeared on In The Wake Of Poseidon, Lizard and Islands, has died aged 72. The pianist had been ill for some time though the cause of death has not been released. Tippett was invited to become a full-time member of King Crimson after his initial guest appearance on Poseidon but he declined the offer which would have involved Fripp and Tippett sharing an equal say in the band's musical direction.

I wish more people in the prog world were more aware of his music beyond King Crimson.

A very creative musician that deserves much more recognition.
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell

The people who write these obituary articles title them to catch the eye of rock music fans. I personally enjoy Keith's work outside King Crimson.

Nobody has mentioned that he also appeared on Pete Sinfield's "Still", so there ya go... RIP Keith. I'm going to check out some of the albums listed above. I have heard some solo work and used to have that Centipede LP.

A unique musician whose influence on King Crimson was overwhelming. His form of piano madness fit perfectly with the anarchy and chaos within KC. One of my favorite non-Crimson outings with him was Low Flying Aircraft, a highly underrated prog album IMO. RIP
