    Headphones ~ What we hear!

On a beautiful Sunday morning.... I had something occur that had me wanting to start a post/thread!

I've recently started listening to my music with headphones once again, after about two decades of floor speakers. This morning, it occurred to me that I was hearing things in/from my LEFT ear, where for many years I had been hearing this in the mix from my right one. That was one interesting new experience. In a way... it was like hearing something for the first time. Un-programmed from the experience of the past listening!

A fair thought for possible discussion:

Do the two sides, left and right, hear things differently as part of the basic human makeup?

The ear on the same side as your dominant hand is better at comprehending speech. It links to the analytical hemisphere of your brain on the opposite side. One should always hold one's phone to that ear.

Yeah...I can't imagine trying to hold the phone to my right ear. It would feel weird and I wouldn't be able to do anything else while on the phone (ie write). At least now I'll have a good excuse for asking people to repeat things as often as I do.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

I too comprehend better with the phone to my left ear, despite being right handed. Maybe it's related to having an appreciation for prog and other more interesting musical genres.

Of course I had to think of this immediatelly:

My left ear is also my listening ear while phoning; it's also slighty less deaf.

^^ And far fewer young people talk on the phone than when Craig Kilborn was on the air.
