I can understand Abbey Road or the White Album getting this kind of treatment, but Flaming Pie??! Really?

McCartney has been doing this with his back catalog for years.

^^^ I had totally missed hearing about these but, yes, looks like Macca's been going through his entire catalogue and doing super deluxe editions one by one. I guess he's got a big enough fanbase that there's demand for 5-disc sets of even his most banal albums. And at well over $100 a pop. Almost $200 for Red Rose Speedway. Forcing someone to listen to 5 discs of RRS material in one sitting probably constitutes a violation of the Geneva convention. I wouldn't wish it on anyone!

For the first time I feel gratitude towards Ian Anderson for charging a much more reasonable $50 for his sets.

"Flaming Pie" is one of his better albums, but I think I will just stick with the original.

Apparently the first one was Band on the Run. I didn't pay attention to that because I already had an expanded anniversary reissue of that album (in a humble clamshell box). Next he did McCartney and McCartney II in very attractive matching clothbound packages, and I remember those being under $50. After that he started making the boxes bigger and fancier and jacking up the prices. I did shell out for Ram and Wings Over America, but I think I'm done now.

The extras were a third CD "Wings Over San Francisco" (but since the regular album already included the full tour repertoire, all the songs are repeats), a DVD of the Rock Show movie, and not one, not two, not three, but four books of photography, art, tour history, and the full itinerary/logistics/minutiae. Dunno how the sound compares to the original, which I no longer gots.
