    Russian Circles

A younger guy who I know at work who has some similar tastes told me he thought I might like this band. I checked out some of their stuff on line and then picked up their latest album and I am really digging it. I put this on the main board, but not sure if they would be considered prog or not. They are probably more post rock, but not really sure. Anyway, this stuff is pretty cool. Any other fans here?

Yep, they're great. Seen them a few times live, see them if you get the opportunity Steve. Excellent show.

They sit somewhere between post rock and post metal. It's just good, wherever one wants to categorize it
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Also, Ephemeral Sun: it's a thing and we like making things that might be your thing: https://ephemeralsun.bandcamp.com

They were actually playing a club about 45 minutes from me before the whole COVID thing happened. If it gets rescheduled I will definitely try to go.

I have the first four. "Enter" and "Empros" are quite good. I need to revisit "Geneva" and "Station."

If you don't already know about them, check out Pelican. "What We All Come to Need" is very good.

I caught them, as well as Pelican some years ago. Didn't impress me. Interesting ideas, but they never went anywhere. Maybe they've gotten better since.

And that's the complaint I have about a lot of post-rock/prog-reinvented: They don't really know how to turn ideas into compositions, and they don't seem to listen to anything but other post-rock with the same problem, so they don't know the difference. If they're going to do Minimalism, a good listen to Steve Reich, Philip Glass, John Adams, Bang-on-a-Can, et al could do them a world of good, but they probably don't know those guys even exist.
